Default Re: Lilly Ledbetter first major union win...

If you are participating in a politics forum, seems like you would know about MAJOR legislation. I'm not saying that people should know about every thank you and congratulations of Congress.

What I wanted to discuss, admittedly crypticly, is why do we do this? Why do we push for legislation that marginalizes us.

I'm all for minimum wage. It's one of the best policies out there. If we could count on government to raise minimum wage to livable standards, we wouldn't need unions. Thing is, unions are the only ones that consistently fight for higher minimum wage.

It's actually one of the most positive things that you can say about the labor movement in general. WE fight against our own interests. The AMA has fought against their own interests, but only on accident. WE do it on purpose. We fight, and I mean FIGHT, for stuff that hurts us in the end. It's because our cause is righteous. Our cause isn't just for us, it's for everyone - DAMMIT! Get excited and involved. Please.
