    Default ABF Eyes Wage Cuts

    ABF Eyes Wage Cuts
    12/2/2008
    John Gallagher
    Associate Editor

ABF Freight Systems is warning its workers it may seek the same kind of concessions that competitor YRC Worldwide recently negotiated with its unionized employees.

In an internal memo to employees, ABF President and Chief Operating Officer Wesley B. Kemp said the company is already losing business to non-union carriers, and the YRC wage cuts add that much more pressure to compete in the LTL market.

"If we're going to do anything about this, now may be the best time to act, while we're financially healthy, rather than waiting until we face a crisis," Kemp said in the memo. "We'll be following the YRCW results closely in the coming days and will let you know what we feel is best for our company."

Mr Kemp had another letter posted today stating that the YRC agreement does not fit ABF. Stay tuned.

If everybody else wants to claim poverty and jump on the YRC bandwagon too, tell them to just model their business after YRC, and they too can run themselves into the ground.

My gosh, everyone wants to take money back from the workers. Everywhere. Greed all around us. Where does this stop? Everyday it seems like someone wants to take something from me. Why?

If I send you my address Brother would you please ( and I did say please) send me 10 % of your pay each week ? LoL

TT Brother.think its bad now? Wait till you retire thru CPTF and watch what happens to your medical coverage. It keeps going up every year and the benefits keep getting cut. I have the best coverage offered and still we can't even get dental in our coverage. $785.oo per month with co-pays and no dental.

Wow, that's bad. I've had COBRA plans better than that

If we don't protect our retiree's then we as a whole have failed. After all the dream of retirement never included paying for your own health coverage. Is it just me or are we going backwards twice as fast as we moved forward. Hell by the rate we are going I will have to pay the company to retire.

I agree. The boys at the fort are making plenty of money. I am sure they haven't taken a cut in pay yet. How can any of us retire if we don't have any medical.
