FORT SMITH - Arkansas Best Freight's biggest competitor is on the verge of collapse, but a deal with the Teamsters union could save 40 thousand jobs. ABF is based in Fort Smith. The Yellow Roadway Corporation is a freight company based in Overland Park, Kansas. facing economic hardship, the company has reached an agreement with union leaders for a 10 percent pay cut across the board. but that doesn't mean the employees won't benefit.

This statement was released Friday: "ABF has reviewed the details of the agreement between YRC Worldwide and the international brotherhood of teamsters. We do not believe that agreement is appropriate for our company. We are in the midst of evaluating its impact on our employees, our cost structure and our competitiveness."

    Hmmmmmmmm.
It makes me wonder why it doesn't fit for ABF.

Probably because the upper management would never agree to cut their salary's when they're still a very profitable company. They just want the membership to take in the %#% "just in case" we run into a similar situation.

Great post Yankee. I think you nailed it. There is one other thing that I'm gonna add to what you've said.
I also believe that ABF would not want to grant the stock warrants like YRC is doing.

Yeah absolutely! Can you imagine the leadership at ABF, with as tight a ship as they run things agreeing to employee part ownership through stock to the employees? They'd probably go hang themselves first.
