So this is where the rumors are coming from! Some analyst commenting on rumors! I was sitting with other drivers and solving all the world's problems(as is usually the case when truckers sit around and have bs sessions) in Camp Hill Friday night, and guys were saying the ABF deal is in the works. One guy said our management said we(NP) had a 95 OR for 1st quarter. Not bad at all for this economy. So just a shout out to the Bull Frog beancounters....PLEASE RESCUE US FROM BILL ZOLLARS! We've heard they are micro-managing our entire sales operation, saying certain accounts are off limits and setting our rates for us instead of letting us do what we know how to do. Pretty much trying to fix what wasn't broken.

I agree 100%, Yellow bit-off more than they can chew! When they went on a spending spree, just befor the economy took a [U]sh-t, WHAT WAS ZOLLARS THINKING? Now YRCW is in over a billion dollars in debt, in the worse economy in thirty yrs. We need to get rid of old school and bring new people with new ideas in that make us (YRCW) profifable, instead of making those who mismanage (YRCW) profifable while they bleed the life out of the company for their own greed!

What was zollars thinking? You know, you and I can sit here and second guess what goes on in trucking, but here is a man that yellow paid millions of dollars to steer the company in the right direction. And he took that job. He is supposed to know what moves to make. Whether times are good or times are bad, he is the one people turn to. That is why he is paid millions of dollars. Or else the can put almost any road driver in charge, because we all have all the answers. But they pay him way above road driver wages because of his expertise. And he really showed his expertise didn't he?
But with all due respect, we pay our union president to be well above us and guide us. I'm not sure we got our money's worth there either?

I don't think the economy was that bad when he puchased these other companies. Had it not tanked, he may have come out of this smelling like a rose. But like anyone that that takes a risk in business, when it goes bad, you look really bad. IMHO.

Little ol' me knew we were in a housing bubble back around late 03 early 04. If you know anything about our economy, housing is number one prime mover. If that bubble is way over-inflated and about to burst, look out! Anyone looking around for housing could see they were in way over their heads on what was "affordable". I sold, moved, purchased in May of 02 and it was darned hard to find anything I could afford at that time beyond the average fixer upper. We settled for a not quite so move in condition fixer upper, but it was affordable. People went for way more house than they could afford and it hurt our economy big time because it curtailed spending in other areas. My overall point being that if little old me knew something serious was adrift with the econ, why didn't the millionaire suits in the boardroom get it?

I suppose you're right on that point about the housing market, but to have to get through a world economic meltdown, surely no one anticipated that.
You know I go back and forth between them rounding up the union companies and taking them down at once, to just bad planning and worse luck. They do seem to be using every available option to keep going. I guess unless you sit on the board, you'll never have that answer.

I keep wondering why Bill Zollars still has a job at YRCW! Sort of gets the paranoid side of me thinking it's a "round 'em up and take 'em down operation."

it's real simple. the way he is positioned he answers to absolutely nobody. even if the stockholders want to oust him, he has to approve. he has that much power.
