    Default for what it's worth....

We had a safety dinner here at carlisle last night. At least our president was still able to appear and receive a warm welcome by the employees. I doubt that zollars would have the nerve to show up at a dinner for his employees?
Anyway, they had a question/answer period and wes kemp said that as far as "he" knew, ABF was not intending to purchase another ltl trucking company. Maybe abfs (or whatever our parent company is) may be looking into a logistics company, but he was not able to discuss that in detail, but he did state that we were not interested in buying new penn or any other regional company because he prefers to do our regional from within. Meaning we will work out our rpm system. He acknowledged that it was a bad time to start the rpm because of reduced freight demands, but then if we didn't offer next day or two day freight, where would we be in today's world with everyone else offering it.
I don't usually put a lot into these safety dinners, they are normally full of propaganda. But if you have a safety dinner coming your way, plan to attend.
They have you write down the questions and they select the cards to answer, I personally think they have the cards pre-written before they even get here so that they have the answers well rehearsed, but that is ok, because the do address current issues. Wes Kemp is 100% more worker friendly than howdy doody ever was. I shook both their hands and wes kemp has my vote even though davidison is above him in command.
I saw davidson shaking my hand (at the last safety dinner) and he seemed somewhat po'd that he was paying me so much in benefits, over what old dominion had to pay ( he stated that during the "safety" dinner, but wes kemp seemed like he was ok with that. He stated that he tried to talk to the union about a pay cut, but he didn't like the offer the union made that included the stock options. He said they backed off quick after that. And he was ok with us getting our raise even though his people (salaried) had a wage freeze and he said he was not getting his bonus.
I don't know, somehow I felt good about listening to him.
Anyone else have anything to say?

Zollars doesn't have the same warm welcome with us. He hasn't been keeping our best interest in mindHe supports his own interests, not the hard working employees that made all the YRC companies what they WERE BEFOR THE YELLOW DESTRUCTION!

Yeah, I agree Mr. Kemp is much more worker/labor friendly than howdy doody. I'm glad they backed off and haven't asked for concessions, although that alone makes me suspicious of what they might be up to. I'm suprised they didn't consider or ask for a wage freeze for this year and possibly next, that's something I could have lived with at least. I think that's a proposal that would have been approved by the members pretty easily. Don't come to me for a giveback/concession though! I'm starting to think maybe Kemp and company are willing to leave our pay alone hoping the economy turns before years end.

It seems like your OK for now, I'm not up on all the ABF issues but, all freight companies share the same concerns. The biggest is the future of our pension. Maybe even the H&W fund. This is a good subject for all even tirechanger!
