No Concession Talks With ABF, Teamsters Say
by William B. Cassidy
Nov 18, 2009 8:19PM GMT
Union's freight director denies contract, benefits negotiations under way
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said no talks are under way with ABF Freight System that would result in concessions for its members.
"There is an erroneous media report that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters National Freight Division is in negotiations with ABF that would result in concessions for our members represented under the National Master Freight Agreement," Teamsters National Freight Director Tyson Johnson said in a statement today. "Let me be clear – this report is false," he said.

Re: ABF, Teamsters to Meet for 'Dialogue'
From the article
Quote:
|
The Teamsters late last year said no talks with ABF were under way after an ABF executive said they had a dialogue and an agreement was expected "soon."
|
I said in older threads that the IBT and ABF was not in talks, so did a member here that works at the IBT, but many did not believe it.
Quote:
|
The Teamsters "are aware of our issues," said McReynolds. "They're aware that our cost structure is higher than both the nonunion and union competitors we have out there."
|
I also said this is why ABF and the IBT will have to do something. I would say vote not ABF Teamsters tell them where to stick it and have some balls.

Re: ABF, Teamsters to Meet for 'Dialogue'
Funny isn't it. When people are less than honest. Everybody wants our little piece of the pie. I would say to the union DON'T EVEN TALK TOO THEM! Not many know this but ABC owns a fleet of jets. They lease them to the wealthy and use them to get around themselves. I hope everyone is watching. Because this should be a good show. Now I hope that Tyson Johnson learned a lesson with how bad the YRC circus went. Don't listen to anything to do with our hourly wage. Hell I would be willing to not sit in any safety and quarterly meetings. That alone would save them a lot of money each year. Before the IBT does anything they had better come to us the ABF Teamsters and see what is and is not negotiable. Here is a language they may understand. NO $$$$$$$$$$ BACK! YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

Re: ABF, Teamsters to Meet for 'Dialogue'
Well we knew this would come about if YRC survived which at this point seems that they will. As for not having "talks", we all know that they meet for lunch, dinner or cocktails.
Even in city as large as D.C. it bound to happen that the IBT & ABF interact UNOFFICIALLY!
Here's a question, if this healthcare care bill passes, could that mean that the IBT & the companies would throw our benefits into it?

Re: ABF, Teamsters to Meet for 'Dialogue'
We have too many employees that will give the company what they want. In my twenty plus years at ABF I have never seen this company do the stupid things they are doing now. I still say that if the company gets what they want you'll see things change right away and back to running the company the way they used to. You don't run IB trailers with only 3-5 bills and then 2 hours later run another trailer with another 3-10 bills. Also you have Chicago drivers running into soc and then pull mtys to suf along with a kc driver running a single to suf right along beside the chicago driver, then both coming bac to soc later at night with myts or 1 trailer each. Now you tell me this is a finely tuned operation, never done this before this will cahange once they get what they want.

Re: ABF, Teamsters to Meet for 'Dialogue'
Lets face reality here. Arkansas Best is not going to allow ABF to continue to lose money. Something will either have to happen with the NMFA or there will be major changes in how ABF conducts it's business.
