New hire pay scale?
I made the list at ABF in December. I thought new hires coming from a union carrier went to 90% of scale and after 1 year reached top pay? Once I made the list I went to 85%. I was told according to the contract, only drivers coming from a "commonly-owned NMFA carrier" go to 90%. I looked at the contract and Article 36 has the language "commonly-owned NMFA carrier". My question is, what does "commonly owned" mean? Do I have to stay at YRC company?

Re: New hire pay scale?
Yeah that article was at the very least misleading. For years freight carriers were called common carriers. So to make that article look more inviting during voting on the NMFA brothers thought it said a common carrier not a commonly owned carrier. Just another object shoved up the back side of a TEAMSTER. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS! PS Welcome Aboard BROTHER.

Re: New hire pay scale?
I don't like the progression pay scale. I'm sure that you didn't forget how to drive or do city or dock work from just switching companies. I can see maybe a 30-45 day progression to learn the way the new carrier does there business. I also could see the stretched out version if a person was never in the freight business but the way its set up like it is its just wrong.

Re: New hire pay scale?
The wording is very vague to say the least. From what I understand is if you work for a company that is under the NMFA and it goes out of business, then you would fall under that scenario. That of course if the company hiring you is also under the NMFA. But in my opinion ABF is really one of the last large ltl's under it..As far as any company under the so-called YRC umbrella, with all the recent givebacks we do not fall under those guidelines..as we now work under a butchered contract..Too bad ABF wasn't a wee bit busier,as I know a lot of guys that would jump to go over there.. Good luck with your new job

Re: New hire pay scale?
from personal experience not only do you have to come from a common owned carrier it has to be from the same local! I left yellow in local 413 went to holland in local 957. Management said i did NOT qualify for the one year progression! Have been laid-off while the grievance procedure goes on. Always remember management will read the same contract as you but will interpretate it different.

I am also a laid off YRC driver (Roadway) and it don't look good to get called back.I'm next to get hired at ABF according to the TM who i spoke to just yesterday. He's just waiting for G.O.to give the ok.It's been a long drawn out process but worth the wait.
