Default Concessions: Why Not Dump the Car?

After watching the #10 car circle the track at Bristol...

    I couldn't help but think...

How many LAID OFF TEAMSTERS FAMILIES would this sponsor money feed? If it cost millions to sponsor a car why would the IBT even think about a concession vote?

Come on guys, they do still need to advertise. UPS, FedEx, Conway & even the great R&L all use Nascar sponsorship to advertise. Wasn't YRC paying a pro golfer to wear it's logo on his shirt?

Yeah but I still wonder if they want our money to get business wouldn't a customer rather have a bigger discount than seeing a Trucking companies name on the side of a race car. The bottom line is customers want a freight rate decrease not a race car. What I am trying to say is Tide reaches out to millions of consumers. Trucking Companies need to satisfy customers with a better rate. To tell you the truth if I were a customer in this economy I would question if I were being over charged if my Freight company could afford to sponsor a race car.

I agree, but the fact remains that the competition is still doing it. I never could understand how R&L would not pay its drivers overtime or give them a pension but could afford to spend millions on advertising on a cup car.

I am a big race fan. But I am also a Steward and see how many of my Brothers are suffering. Like the fact ABF hired a third party scum bag company to fight all my Teamsters unemployment filings. For what they earned those benifits. But such is business.

That sounds logical, but we all know that freight rates are so low, shippers are getting steals, not deals.

Yep, We also sponsered 3 different vehicles in the NASCAR series. A truck, when it was called the "Craftsman" truck series...Tony Raines drove it and won consistantly. We had a car in the "Busch" series....Jimmie Spencer along with a long list of up and coming racers drove that one. We co-sponsered a "Cup" car for awhile also. They used proceeds from our vending machines to help foot the bill for it all....They raised the prices on all of the goods in the machines to make up the difference. By the way, the prices of goods in the vending machines have not declined even though we no longer sponser a race team. But hey, Jim Furyk has to eat too!
