Default Was the economy bad in 2007?

    A old article :

    Selling Out the Teamsters
    Hoffa Brown-Nosing at UPS

    By JOE ALLEN

Ten years after the historic strike by the Teamsters at UPS that electrified workers in the U.S. and put fear into the hearts of America's CEO's, Teamster leader James P. Hoffa has tentatively negotiated a new national contract with UPS that can an only be described as an historic defeat, and, if passed by the membership, may permanently cripple the ability of future union activists to recover the union's once formidable position at the world's largest transportation company.

"While other unions are struggling against employers, this tentative agreement with UPS addresses our members' concerns and is an example of how the Teamsters are moving forward faster and stronger than ever," claims Hoffa. These other-worldly, bombastic boasts are a perfect example of Hoffa-speak, where defeats are portrayed as victories, and sell-outs as masterful leadership. The only direction the Teamsters are moving in is backward and at top speed with the proposed contract.

"Was the economy bad in 2007?" As I recall, some parts of the country were pretty bad, and the US in general was definitely trending down. Was still ok here in Chicago.

Old or not, interesting none the less.

From the sounds of the article the deal was made to let 44,000 UPS workers out of Central States Pension Fund with the understanding that after the UPS contract was ratified then and only then Overnite/ UPS Freight could be organized.

Does any of this sound like a good deal for the rank and file?

Good for the the IBT though, with increased members come increased dues, thereby allowing high salaries and multiple pensions to continue!

This article says we were in a 27 month recession written in feb. 2009.
It's Zollars. So that pts us bacck into the last quarter of 2006. It was starting to slow up at New Penn then. I was looking for the video of zollars playing the all-knowing economic advisor on TV. There's a clip of it somewhere on the web. Alot of good it did him. He still continued to buy, buy, buy...if i remember correctly.
