    Default Casual Pay Rate

Hi brothers.I have question i need answered.I started working casual last week for you guys as a city driver.I worked two days last week and so far three this week.So today i received my pay check and low and behold they are paying me $14.00 bucks an hour.According to N.M.F.A. under article 36,i should be at 85% of the current rate as a qualified CDL driver.I asked another driver who just got hired not to long ago,and he said they did the same thing to him the first week.I never heard of this in all my years as teamster.I'm getting with the TM and the steward on this matter. Is normal ABF practice or what?

Mopaeman, I just made the list in Dec. My pay stub also stated $14 per hr. But they also had a Balance due section and that is where the difference in pay was. Check it out before you grab the TM.

New Penn is correct. ABF shows the difference from dock-only rate of $14 to the casual rate of about $19.70 under the heading of BALANCE DUE on the pay stub. That way if you are brought in for dock-only you only get $14 an hr. Incidently, if you get behind the wheel of a truck, even moves in the yard, that qualifies for the higher rate for the day.
    Good luck

I was approved to work casual for ABF while I'm laid off at YRC. I was told by another driver from ABF that you drive in the city during the day and get one rate, then if you work the dock after coming back to the terminal, that you go to $14.00 per hour. This never happened when I was a casual at YRC and when I worked as a casual for ABF back in 2005. Maybe it happened after the last contract?

Absolutly not. If you come off the street to the dock you get the higher rate for the entire day. The lower rate only applies if you only work the dock for the entire day. Check with your steward.
