Default Stifel Nicolaus Puts ABF From Hold To Buy

Does the Risk-Reward Make Sense? POZN, MNTA, ABFS : Small Cap Stock Analysis : Small Cap Stocks and Penny Stocks For Big Returns - SmallCap Network

Finally this morning we have Arkansas Best Corporation (ABFS) Arkansas Best Corporation - Non-compliant Browser Detected! currently trading in the $22.13 range on a 3-Month average daily trading volume of 391,423 shares. ABSF has a 52-week high of $34.56 with current trailing twelve month revenues of $1.54 billion. ABSF is a motor carrier freight transportation company located in the U.S. ABFS provides shipping services to its customers by transporting various large and small shipments to geographically dispersed destinations. This week research house Stifel Nicolaus upgraded ABFS from a ‘hold’ to a ‘buy’ and the shares jumped. The analyst has a $30 price target on ABFS based partly on a new deal with the Teamsters union and pension reform legislation in Congress. The analyst also noted ABFS competitor YRC is under duress and that could benefit ABFS. I’m going with the analyst on this one. At its current price, ABSF would be a ‘Buy on the Dips’ consideration for me.

I don't know why it says that....I highlited it so everybody could see it but don't know why it says it. Maybe whoever's site it is wants to sell ABFS stocks but doesn't have their facts straight..I went to the Nico;aus site and coudn't find anything there but maybe i didn't look good enough.

Maybe they are not really into using true facts to sell stocks...maybe they are just into selling them like a dishonest used car dealer. Or maybe there is something which we are not being told. The pension thing is true. Soon Congress will be working on that bill. It will help YRC but I don't know about ABF.

I saw this on Yahoo finance yesterday but don't know how to post a link here. I pointed it out to my husband who happened to be home. I am not positive but I think this is the group of investors that during the ABF 2nd qtr. report insisted to Judy that ABF would have to have some kind of concession from the teamsters to make money again. I remember I was really irritated because he kept pushing the issue. The guy sounded like a total jerk to me. I can't even remember the name of the guy who pushed the issue but it was there loud and clear. So maybe at this point it is them just trying to push their issue again and making it sound like ABF can't survive without concessions.

I did want to mention something I have been watching for a month or two that I find very interesting for us ABFers. I keep an eye on ABF, YRC, Conway and Old Dominion stocks on a daily basis. A month or so ago, Old Dominion was way above ABF, at the head of the pack and lately their stocks have dropped so far that they are only slighty ahead of ABF. Now Conway is selling the highest but even then, the gap is closing between ABF and Conway. All I hear is how well Old Dominion is doing and if so, why are their stock prices dropping so drastically???

Maybe this "deal". Not a Teamster "deal" with ABF but with YRC. Which they must feel will cause ABF to do better for they do not feel that the YRC guys will vote "yes" again. And we can figure out what that does from there...ABF will eventually have more freight and be more valuable....Any ties to the Clintons at ABF? Just wondering.
YRC Teamsters offer further concessions in return for CEO's ouster – DC Velocity

David G. Ross, transport analyst for Baltimore-based Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., said it would be difficult to drum up sufficient support among YRC's rank and file for a third round of concessions. Ross noted that the second round of concessions, approved last August, narrowly passed by a 58-42 percent vote. The first round of concessions was approved by a vote of 77-23 percent.

Ross added that labor and management negotiators would be hard-pressed to convince YRC's lenders to acquire any more equity in a company with such uncertain prospects.

The Stifel, Nicolaus analyst also said YRC could experience further customer freight diversion until the vote takes place, which seems likely to be next month. With YRC's labor issues back in the headlines, rivals will aggressively court its customers by highlighting the company's financial instability, Ross said
