Default ABF Gains Require Wage Cuts/Pension Reform

Listen to this crap. It's really getting disgusting and sleazy...When people are getting angry in the streets maybe they'll know they pushed too far and wanted too much...it is just so frigging ridiculous. Are you guys even in financial trouble at all?

Arkansas Best gains require union wage cuts, pension reform | The City Wire

The good news is that the most recent analyst report says Fort Smith-based Arkansas Best Corp. may have hit bottom and could see positive earnings in fiscal 2011. But even with that, the economic future of Arkansas Best depends largely on the company’s success in gaining wage and pension relief from Teamsters and Congress, respectively.

Arkansas Best is the parent company of ABF Freight System, a less-than-truckload carrier that is the second-largest in an estimated $29 billion LTL market in the U.S. The company employs about 9,500 nationwide, which includes about 7,000 unionized drivers.

You know organizing the unorganized would raise stability and we would have solid contracts instead of the IBT calling for concessions we should be having organizing campaigns. All the TIME thats how we have power - keep growing

Heres my take to Dave Humphrey of ABFS you state we signed the same agreement as YRC and we should have the same as YRC for wages and benefits. The company YRC yes has gone thru the same concessions as ABF but the big difference between the companies is YELLOW went on a buying spree and has brought alot of this on themselves. ABF has always said that they signed a me too contract basically but maybe the plan all the time was that Yellow buy up all the union companies with the exception of ABF break the union ABF follow suit and now the hell with the unions. Dollar Bill looks like the bad guy and ABF can play the well we had to follow to continue to stay in business.

How are we going to organize anyone. Anyone that would be organized will not be into the NMFA after Hoffa sold us out and gave UPSF a stand alone contract. Besides with so much going on in the union now there is no way they will organize any freight members that will help us out the way it stands now. Sad to say this but the way were heading we will be the dinosaurs before long unless we get some unity back in the teamsters.

That is exactly what I said on another thread. What is the IBT doing? Nothing but giving YRC more concessions and going after FEDEX.
