Arrow ABF Freight System tries again to end YRCís union concessions

The less-than-truckload carrier, a subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corp. (Nasdaq: ABFS), is scheduled to present oral arguments in a federal appeals court on April 8.

ABF, the chief unionized rival of Overland Park-based YRC Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq: YRCW), argues that three rounds of concessions negotiated between 2008 and 2010 that save YRC an estimated $350 million a year in labor costs violate the National Master Freight Agreement, a contract covering freight workers throughout the country.

If ABF succeeds, it could mean the concessions :Pó which played a large role in the survival of YRC :Pó would be invalidated.

Contract ends at the end of March, court date is April 8th. It will be extremely interesting to see how this is going to play out!

I personally don't think it will happen. I think instead they will come after the ABF Teamsters for everything YRC got.

I don't think so. I think it's more that ABF wants the same relief from the NMFA as YRC has. If YRC were to go out of business ABF still has to try and compete with all the other lower labor cost companies.

ABF, Wal-Mart Tangle with Unions in Separate Court Cases
Two Arkansas-based public companies are in legal tussles with unions in their respective industries: the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

First, ABF Freight System Inc., a subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corp. of Fort Smith, is to appear in federal appeals court April 10 to challenge concessions the Teamsters granted to rival YRC Worldwide Inc.
