Unions wrapping up deal on pilot seniority for airlines under Republic's umbrella - The Denver Post

    Posted: 06/01/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT

A complex arbitration relating to airline pilot seniority is set to wrap up after presentations were made last week.

Unions representing 3,200 pilots flying for Frontier, Lynx, Midwest and Republic — all companies that have been brought under Republic Airways umbrella — have been working for months on seniority integration. Republic is seeking to integrate pilots, who were all on different seniority systems, into a single unit.

In the airline business, seniority is a critical issue because it determines where pilots live, when they fly, how much they are paid and whether they have a job. Seniority integration has often been a major sticking point in airline mergers.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, representing Republic pilots, and the Frontier Airlines Pilots Association presented cases to their arbitrator last week.

In March, presentations were made by the United Transportation Union on behalf of Lynx pilots and Air Line Pilots Association for Midwest pilots.

Each of the parties has signed a confidentiality agreement. No details will be available until the arbitrator makes a ruling, which is not expected until August at the earliest.

Republic acquired Frontier, Lynx and Midwest last year and hopes to have the carriers fully integrated within the next year.

(INDIANAPOLIS) – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters won the representation election today for all pilots employed by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings, receiving 68 percent of the total vote.

After certification by the National Mediation Board (NMB), the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will become the representative of the pilots of Chautauqua, Frontier, Lynx, Midwest, Republic and Shuttle America.
“These pilots have chosen to make a whole new beginning,” Hoffa said. “I applaud them for their historic victory and I’m especially pleased we can announce this wonderful news to more than 5,000 Teamsters and their families attending the 28th International Brotherhood of Teamsters.”

One thing is for sure we will hear all the positives that he has done but mum on the failures. The positive list will be short and the failure list, well do i need to say more.

I am waiting for his "self induced" pat on the back regarding the droves of trucking companies he organized under the NMFA.

Default Teamsters Request End To Mediation for Republic Pilot Negotiations

"This will set the stage for the management group at Republic Airlines to either negotiate in good faith or face self-help by the Republic pilots with the full backing of my office and all 1.4 million Teamsters," Teamsters Airline Division Director Capt. David Bourne wrote in a separate letter to pilots.

Citing an impasse in mediation efforts to reach a settlement with the company, the Teamsters have requested that the NMB end the mediation process and extend arbitration to the parties.
