Nummi plant shutdown - 4700 jobs lost
by Alexis Sclamberg
On April 1st, the New United Motor Manufacturing plant (Nummi) in Fremont will shut down, putting 4,700 people out of work. While the plant closure is definite, the final payments to those laid off workers are far from clear.

While the plant, operated by both Toyota and GM, has offered a maximum of $50,000 to $60,000 (depending on the worker’s length of service), the union is seeking more.
