Semi-Truck Hits Police Vehicle, Drives Off

KASSON, Minn. (WCCO) ― Kasson police say a semi-truck hit one of their pickup trucks Friday morning and drove off.

Kasson is near Rochester in southeastern Minnesota.

Assistant Chief Kent Berghuis had stopped at the scene of an earlier accident when the crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Highway 14 at County Road 9.

Patrol Sgt. Mike Miller was near the accident.

"Kind of shock to you. Look out the window and there's a semi right beside you," said Miller.

Officials say the semi-truck driver got out and checked his rig for damage, then got back in his truck and drove off. The semi-truck had a blue cab and a white trailer.

You would think that the officer would have went up to driver if he had stopped and checked out his rig. I guess maybe he was too embarassed inside the truck cleaning out his pants to approach the driver.

With limited visibility as mentioned, how does the officer know that the driver stopped and if the driver did stop why was the officer not able to get a plate number of the trailer. After all the officer hit was the assistant chief!

He might as well of given the one finger salute while he was at it!

One would think that the driver would have been stopped further down the road, unless the range of the police radio was also limited due to the weather!
