Yep...around Friday or so. It could crawl right up the eastern seaboard from Florida to South Carolina. Depends on several factors, like landfall, that high pressure ridge and a 'cold' front travelling southward over the week.

Forecasts have it as a possible Cat 2 or thereabouts. Depends on how much contact with land it makes, and for how long. Rolling over the Dominican Republic and Haiti would weaken it.

Went through Frances and Jeanne in '04 and Wilma in '05...they're not fun.

Apparently veering a bit to the east. Good news for St. Jay and I and any other Florida TOL members...but still within the zone of probability.

Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Will keep you all informed as I find things out.

Latest I've read is that the entire state is out of the cone of probability (), and that the models are coming closer in agreement...so it looks like Irene will parallel the Florida coastline, and make landfall further north. I hope that wherever it lands, people are ready for it and take it seriously.

Looks like your family will be OK, Crazy!!

I remember being up in SC about three years after Hugo...trees, whole forests of 'em, still bent over and broken from the storm.

We went through Frances, which was bad, losing power and AC for two weeks. I was at work and was getting air conditioning, hot meals and supplies from the electric companies and from work, but the family suffered. Then, three weeks later, we were hit by Jeanne. Fortunately we had a generator by then and the power was out only for about three or four days.

We didn't put our hurricane shutters up. Irene is sitting right off the coast but rolling by. We are getting some feader bans with periods of heavy rain and wind but we really lucked out on this one. Good luck to you all up the east coast!
