Default Unemployment Insurance Maximum Duration Dropping To 79 Weeks

"This is the first wave of tens of thousands of laid-off workers losing their unemployment insurance unless the program is extended in Washington these next weeks in a sound and sensitive manner," Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.) said in a statement on Saturday. "If the federal extended benefit program is not fixed in the conference committee, close to 30 states will follow Michigan and lose access to this program in the first six months of 2012."
The next states to lose Extended Benefits eligibility will be Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee, according to an analysis by the National Employment Law Project, a worker advocacy group. In those states the program will stop in April.

Good, getting shorter. Should be closer to 26 weeks. But it's better than 99 weeks.

What happens next? There are only so many job openings at Burger King. People do still have to feed their kids. What do you think will happen to the crime rate? IMO many honest people will end up turning to crime in order to survive.

Where are the cities going to get the extra money to rehire all those laid off cops to handle the increase in crime? I guess you could say that more crime will create more jobs in the criminal justice system. Jobs for judges, prosecuters, public defenders, bureaucrats, correction and parole officers, construcion workers to build the extra prison space etc.

Right now most people don't have to commit crimes in order to survive. They usually steal for drugs and luxury items like booze cigarettes and air jordans etc.

Oops, I didn't mean for that to sound racist. There are also a lot of white people walking around wearing air jordans with their underpants showing.

Show me a study that the crime rate rockets when unemployment checks run out.
Unemployment should never be used as a means to control the crime rate. That's a dangerous path. Because if that's the case, let's just make unemployment never ending.

Look, 26 weeks is 6 months. That's hardly heartless. And if you cant find something 6 months, then you need to look in the mirror.
There's been many cases where people have collected unemployment till the RIGHT job comes along. I've seen it my own family.
Look at the classifieds, theres jobs, maybe not the one want, or pays all that well, but there are jobs.

My cousin was unemployed. How of work framer in Phoenix. He finally got a job as Secruity Officer( rent a cop) at $10 an hour. I come to find out, his unemployment was due to rub that week!! All that time he complained he couldn't a job. Wrong, he could find a job that he liked it wanted, until he absolutely had to.

6 months is plenty of time. Nearly 23 months, your just mooching.

Have you ever been in this position..Once again you would like to see everyone accepting low paying jobs...Maybe if it happened to you you might look differently about it..

There may or may not be a study out there. I don't know it to be a fact. It's just my opinion, thats why I put IMO. But it makes perfect sense to me. They have to support their families to an above poverty standard of living somehow.

    IMO crime will increase

It's easy to make a statement like that when it does'nt effect you!!! IMO the majority of people in this country would rather have a job than collect unemployment.

Then riddle me this. Why when the unemployment ran out on the 99ers, most found jobs!
You opinion means nothing to me.

Ya, my life was soooo easy. You know me soooo well.

Didn't say your life was so easy. I don't even know you, but I disagree with a lot of your opinions. Life is good when you are a 'TEAMSTER' and enjoy the pay and benefits associated with the job, but don't really understand what a union person really is. I am glad to know that you know all of these 99ers that found jobs. I think they just stopped looking for work because of lack of jobs. I don't look for arguments so it was nice talking with you.
