I am curious if this is messing up freight back there? I know it has really messed up flights at the Albuquerque Sunport and I expect any day now ABF will see the affects out west here.

That stretch of thruway always has winter lake effect snow. They just detour trucks around on other roads, just like New Penn would. The trucks will roll. Just a little slower.
Other then for city work, the New Penn road system did not use that part of the thruway.

Doesn't Newpenn have an Erie terminal??? Also Buffalo to Pittsburgh, that would be the way the trucks go at least when I ran road for Redstar that was the way..Nothing like running down that set of highway in the winter with a set of 48"s..

    No Erie terminal.
It is served by the Williamsville ( Buffalo ) terminal, unless they use cartage.
Cartage was big in Williamsville, as with most New Penn end of line terminals.
Believe it or not, the road routing guide to Pittsburgh ( Neville Island ) had us going down some country bumpkin 2 laner, crossing over I-80 running southwest.
Never had the pleasure of that trip, but heard many stories of the nightmare ride in the winter.
I bet more then a few drivers ran off route down to I-79. ( IMO )
New Penn probably saved 10 miles routing down the 2 lane roads.

Buffalo to Pittsburgh is routed I 90 west to I 79 south to Neville Island. Been routed that way at least 15 years. I think you have Altoona mixed up I 90 w to 219 s to I 80 east then continue down thru the woods.

That could be. Like I said, never made the trip.
To be honest, I never paid much mind to the stupid routing guide anyway.
They had some of the dumbest and dangerous road routing I ever saw.
