Default Are extended warranties worth the money?

I usually don't get the extended warranty. I'd rather just take my chances and hope the item lasts especially if the replacement is pro rated.

The Curtis' had purchased an extended warranty from Home Depot as well. But it turned out that didn't help Curtis either. "They couldn't do anything about it since it was cosmetic."

Point Pleasant resident Mike Curtis purchased an extended warranty from Home Depot for his refrigerator and dishwasher, but it didn't help. Consumer Reports doesn't think purchasing an extended warranty or service plan is a good idea. "You shouldn't have to pay extra to get manufacturers or retailers to stand behind their products," Consumer Reports says on its website.

Never, ever have I bought the extended warranty,my philosophy is if it works when I get it home and continues to work till the warranty expires then it will probably be fine, have always been told by folks I knew in retail these are nothing but a cash cow for them as most are never needed and don't get me started on the Rebate Scam, that's another pet peeve of mine,if you can give me the rebate then give it at the point of purchase,no hoops required.

    In a quick word ... NO !
While working for a few car dealers, I found those extended warranties expensive.
If it wasn't a "factory" warranty, the aftermarket companies would mandate used parts and cheap repairs.
Save your money and use that for a repair if you need it.

We both made the mistake of buying extended warranties on our used cars because of a car that ended up with major issues we had owned previously. Never again! The money we spent on those warranties could have easily paid for repairs on the cars we have now and the hoops they make you jump through to use those warranties is incredible.

Had a friend of mine growing up became a salesman for one of the leading appliance chains in the NYC area and he always told me that extended warranties for the consumer are nothing but a waste of money.. But trust me he tried to sell as many as he could because for him it was gravy in the paycheck.

You all heard me give the good and the bad on this during the "lessons" of beanie and making a shrewd car purchase. Never buy an extended warranty from a dealer. I have owned a few high end vehicles over the years and the warranty paid for itself and then some. For example, we had a rear view mirror take a dump on the way to Vegas. The tab for that little technological wonder was 500 bucks! That particular warranty was bumper to bumper for 150,000 miles. About the only thing not covered were the fluids in the vehicle. This was the tippy top of the warranty world also. They only used factory replacement parts.
