alternative to satellite radio.
I heard abf was looking into installing these in the trucks starting with the 18000 series, but as of right now, it's just a rumor:

Well it sure would help the bottom line. I know that these union companies are having a tough time competing as of late. This sure would help offset the high operating costs induced by us high dollar union employees. I wouldn't be suprised to see YRC follow suit. The only way to really make it work though would be to somehow implement a "NO Personal Electronic Devices" policy. That would gaurantee guys having to use the "Pay to Play". All in all, I think the "space cadets" are on to something.

Re: alternative to satellite radio.
I saw in a motel someplace they had one of those things attached to the TV.
I filed a grievance on it but we moved before the grievance was ever heard.
Portland Me sticks in mind but I can't remember now. Somewhere up in New England anyway. I really don't think that thing can hold together in a Freight truck.

They would probably have stickers on the dashboards:
Hey, at least it's per hour, not per song like the old juke box days?Last edited by ttman; 04-14-2008 at 09:35 PM.

Re: alternative to satellite radio.
Dang tt are they thinking about moving the steering wheel to the right side of the truck
If they do that won't they have to put two seats in the truck then
I mean you can't set on the left in the seat and steer the truck with the steering wheel on the right now you know that don't ya

Re: alternative to satellite radio.
I was on a cruise last january and we stopped at one of the virgin islands and I was watching the dock where they were unloading containers and I sawa couple of old roadway tractors andthey had left side steering while the country had right side driving laws and I started thinking how confusing that must be to the drivers. One day they show up and get an old american truck with left hand driving, the next day they may get a right hand british truck. Guess we have it easy!

Re: alternative to satellite radio.
You know that someone would have to figure out a way to rob the quarters or use slugs or just plain steal the damn thing. It has to happen.I know when I drove for Red Star and they purchased some new/used tractors with radios the first thing that happened guys started using screwdrivers and stabbing the faces til they broke and a few guys stole them.If they didn't break the radios they stole the speakers. We used to pull into terminals and city men would fight each other to get the trucks with radios in them. We even had two men stop along the highway and get into a fist fight over trucks and one guy stabbed the other driver to death. This happened in Va on I-95 below DC.They arrested the stabber at the weigh station in Dumfries Va.

Re: alternative to satellite radio.
I heard about that truck with a toilet for a seat? Kind of makes sense if you think about it, because if it's a FIFO board, you really want to get the job done and get in first?
There was a company somewhere that experimented with a special seat on all new fork lifts, to keep production levels high. I don't know how successful that was? I forget where I saw this, but I thought it was strange? I never could figure out the sign, if it was so sharp, why didn't they just take it down and through it away? An OSHA issue for sure?
