PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - As U.S. gasoline prices hit records on almost a daily basis, an increasing number of motorists are following a radical driving technique designed to eke out every last mile from a tank of fuel.

Known as 'hypermiling,' the method can double gas mileage, even in gas-guzzling vehicles that would normally get less than 20 mpg.

I HATE TAILGATERS. Get behind me like that and your gonna eat the damn tailgate of my truck....I slammed the breaks on one night and got rear ended by a State Trooper. After we went to court and the judge found out he was following me at night without lights he almost lost his job. He had the nerve at the time of the accident to write me a ticket for unsafe driving. It also helped when I told the judge that a deer ran out in front of me. Hey (don't laugh ) It worked..

I was working my way toward the house and I was on I-90 by LaCrosse, WI on Friday night. There was a car trying to hypermile on me and my 63 mph Volvo. I couldn't even tell they were back there until they started riding the centerline and blinding me in the mirrors with there lights. I went to the left lane and slowed to about 50 mph, trying to get them to pass, but the idiot followed me!

I hate brake checking but if it prevents lights blinding me in my mirrors- game on. I let this D-bag follow me back to the right lane, and then stomped the brakes, I was fairly light so it didn't take too long to get the smoke rolling out of the tandems. This car swerved to the left and turned the dome light on to make sure I saw HER flip me off. Oh well, I've been hated by people way more important then her! I have done it to large cars too, I don't discriminate, I am not a huge fan of tailgaters.

One of my favorite things to do once the salt trucks start rolling is to dust the ones on my tail gate.I love getting on the line and lifting the salt off the shoulder.

That also helps keep them from having a chip free windshield. I used to work at a company that had the main office number on the trailer door. I got called on that more than once. Sometimes, I wasn't even trying!
