    Default Religion

Because the topic keeps popping up and because it is so often tied in with politics, the staff has decided to have a thread devoted to this topic. This will probably end up just as heated if not more than the political forum. Because of that, I am giving a warning right now that all forum rules still apply. No name calling. I would hope that would not happen in such a thread but pretty sure it will. And the posts don't need to be subjects of anger or animosity. They can be positive posts too. Whatever you want to discuss of a religious nature. Our hope is that the "religious" discussions that keep popping up in the political forum will now be discussed here. And I will start the forum off with something that was shared on my FB the other day by our interim priest. Something that really struck home with me. I debated with myself about posting it but I really feel I need to share it. No doubt it will start this thread off with controversy.

Remember, all forum rules apply. And if we find religious posts in other threads that have nothing to do with the subject matter of the thread, they will be moved to this thread.

Dear Jesus, You’re Fired From American Evangelical Christianity

You really need to read the whole thing.

    Dear Jesus,

We regret to inform you that as of today, your services are no longer required.

As will happen, changes have occurred in recent months that have now rendered many of your past duties obsolete:

Empathy is no longer deemed necessary, and so loving your neighbor as yourself is a rather wasteful use of current resources and manpower.

Turning the other cheek has proven not to be measurably profitable, and we have eliminated it from our Strategic Plan for the coming four years.

We have drastically reduced funding on your earlier initiatives of Compassion, Diversity, and Equality, and will instead be focusing on the more lucrative Fear, Exclusion, and Discrimination programs, which polls indicate our dwindling base prefers.

We’ve also made large cuts to the Loving The Least initiative you originally spearheaded, and allocated these funds to our popular Pull Yourself Up By Your Own Bootstrap campaign.

Also, given your Middle Eastern upbringing we feel the need to distance ourselves from your image, as our predominately white core audience is uncomfortable with the problematic associations it conveys in this current climate.

Exactly how I felt about it too. And I love that our dear Father Phil is not afraid to talk about this stuff. And the scary thing is as I have said before, these are the churches that are filling their seats and parking lots. We have one next door to our church. Legacy church. When I say next door, that means probably a good four acres from us if not more. What do we hear during our communion, their rock music, boom, boom, boom as we are in the most important part of our service. I live in a very small rural town and I can think of at least five evangelical churches here, not all of them large but busy just the same, and then there is our little tiny Episcopal church and our little tiny Catholic church. I can tell you it is not hate being spewed in either one of these churches because I have been a member of both for many years.

The reason I mention the rock music and the disruption of our service is because they have total disregard for our church even though we are all Christians. We had a problem with their parking lot flooding our church area and our church sits flat on the ground. They were asked to help with the problem as our church is very poor. They refused and let us know in no uncertain terms that we were nothing in their eyes, not true Christians.

It does have many elements of today's world and the people that preach religion and gospel on Sunday, but have no compassion for fellow humans on Monday.

Just substitute "politicians" in place of TV evangelists and we have the same thing.

I think it is very easy to read sincerity in a person's eyes and tone. When I am flipping through the channels I sometimes stop and watch. I can handle about five minutes of it. I personally cannot relate at all in any way shape or form to these preachers.

Here's a story from a few years ago and this is someone that is there for the money..

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...icle-1.2150876

A Georgia megachuch pastor is praying for angels to help keep him aloft.

Creflo Dollar, who heads the Atlanta-area World Changers Church International, asked congregants to donate to Project G650, a campaign to buy a $65 million Gulfstream G650 airplane. The church said it needs 200,000 people to give at least $300 U.S. dollars to fund the 18-passanger luxury plane.

The project page was deleted from the church’s website shortly after it launched Friday.

An engine on the ministry's former plane, a 1984 model purchased in 1999, recently failed during a trip to Europe, taking it out of service. While no one was injured during the incident, it means the church has been without a private plane ever since.

“It’s not like a car where you can pull over on the side when something goes wrong,” Dollar said in a YouTube video explaining the project. “I knew it was time to begin to believe God for a new airplane.”
