    Default Fraud !

I know around my area we have several large US Mail distribution facility's. The mail moves by contract carriers, for the most part. Those jobs pay prevailing wages. Good jobs, just not full time unless you know somebody.

Former trucking executive pleads guilty to two counts of wire fraud in USPS mail contracts case
A former executive of a Florida-based trucking company pleaded guilty in federal court on June 12 to two counts of wire fraud related to mail contracts it had with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).
Court documents filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleged that Rivero misappropriated and diverted approximately $2.7 million “for his personal use and benefit and to further the scheme to defraud.”
According to the terms of the USPS contract with Florida Carrier, it was to pay its employee drivers prevailing wage and fringe benefits, including health insurance, vacation and holiday pay, as part of the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). Also included in the contract was that Florida Carrier would pay payroll taxes for Social Security, worker’s compensation, as well as federal and state unemployment taxes.
The USPS paid approximately $1.5 million to Florida Carrier for employees’ fringe benefits and around $1.2 million for drivers’ payroll taxes, but those funds were allegedly never passed on to the misclassified drivers.

They are contract carriers here in my area too. Husband tried to get a job with a few of them when he was laid off from ABF. The pay was terrible. Even the postal delivery people are contract workers and they use their own vehicles to deliver our mail. That was new to me when I moved here to NM.

I worked on the weekends for a mail contractor a few years back. Every Saturday up to Dillon MT and back. I took the wage package over the wage plus benefits package offered. One of the best part time gigs I've ever had. Another guy I worked with at Ol' Yellar took the Sunday run. Same for him. Wages only. The owner had no turnover on drivers. Pretty much the same for other owners as well. Times change.

When we were on strike at OHFL I made two trips for one of the mail contractors over the Christmas rush. Had a third scheduled but I pulled my back real bad and called off two days before as I didn't think I would be recovered enough to work.

About a year later they got busted by the Fed for some sort of fraud, fined a large amount, and barred from any Federal contracts for a long time. I don't recall the details of it all nor even the name of the company. (Google remembers, Lange) From what I saw it was the same old trucking company story, lies and cheat but keep it looking legal. Tell you one thing then do another.

The pay came through as promised, but slow.
