Cardboard box.
Showed up at work today, the boss met me at the door..
He handed me my lay-off slip, and said he had a dozen more...
Looks like it's gonna be a rough year, my mortgage is all but overdue..
Maybe I can find a cardboard box to live in a month or two..
When I left the factory, I saw the homeless down on Main...
I thought, Have they traveled this road I'm on, are our fates the same ?
You know life is full of twist's and turns and alot of hard knocks...
Just How long do you reckon it will be for my family & me to wind up in a cardboad box...
A cardboard box it has four walls and roof that folds in half..
It may not be a home of luxury but to a homeless man it's a place to take a nap..
None of us are immune the perils that many face inside the world of a cardboard box..
As a matter of fact many of us are a paycheck away from having our lives hit the rocks..
So when you go to sleep tonite behind those four walls of wood..
Say a prayer the homeless & the down on their luck if ya could.
For thay probably have had no food today or a matress on which to lay..
Like you & me and lord knows we are only a paycheck away..
From living in a cardboard box...

Re: Cardboard box.
If it ever really gets to that point, you and your wife can move into my house. No friend of mine will ever have to live in a box, as long as I've got a roof over my head.

Re: Cardboard box.
it's a shame people have to think about this kind of thing, but I think a lot of us are only a few paychecks away from potential disaster? I know we are in good shape at my house, my wife is in the medical field so she will always work and I am in the upper 3/4ths of my board so I am ok. But only as long as freight companies are ok. If they go out, suddenly we are all in big trouble?
But as long as they stay around, we should be ok. I think I remember saying the same thing many years ago (when my family was young and I needed a good income) I worked at polaroid. They made so much money they couldn't spend it fast enough. Pay raises and bonuses came easy. Instant film It was a monopoly. No one else could make it. It was a solid future. A couple of weeks ago I got a letter saying the retired polaroid employees association was fazing out because the number of employees were dropping to such low levels that it was not able to pay it's way. I put all of my retirement in stock back then. Who would ever think a monopoly such as this would fail? Then one hour photo showed up and then digital photography showed up. What was a sure thing back then doesn't even exist today. Polaroid stopped making film a couple of months ago and sold their manufacturing plant in waltham ma and it is going to be leveled and turned into a shopping mall. None of those high paying good jobs exist today.
