    Default Certified Letter......Again!

    Got another certified letter the other from DHL in Plantation, Fl. It stated that for those of us that were laid off Feb 13th and didn't take the previous VSP, they are offering us 4 weeks severance. They are still trying to weed out higher seniority. They don't want us coming back. They want to hire new people at lower wages. They said please fill out the enclosed Severance form and return it no later than March 31st! One problem............THEY FORGOT TO PUT IT IN THE ENVELOPE! HA they think WE'RE stupid! If we didn't take the 10 weeks severance, why would we now take 4 weeks? I'm not giving up 21 yrs without a fight. There are no other jobs out there that would pay me what I make on this job. Rumor has it that the recall will start in a couple of weeks. I think it's strange they want the form returned by the end of the month, the same time our contract expires! Hmmmmm

    If you were to take a severance package would this give up your seniority rights for a recall?

    Is this practice in their contract. We Freight Haulers don't have such a clause. This sounds like it should be investigated by the IBT. At the very least they should be advising the members of their rights.

    They can't even find the BA right now. He's awol again. And all the union is going to tell us is it's our choice whether to take it or not. Just like the last one. I just sent in my dues for March today and I plan on doing that until I get the call back. I'm not giving these assholes the satisfaction. They want to weed out more seniors and hire new at $10 an hr less. JUST SAY NO!
    We vote on our contract in a few weeks and I plan on being there to stand up for my rights as a teamster!

    10pin's bio shows Local 705, which has a separate contract from the IBT/DHL agreement. The IBT should be notified for informational purposes only. 705's staff & attorney are the ones who have the 'splainin to do.

    10pin, isn't your BA also a trustee?

    Yes he is a trustee as well. Also, I am not certain but I don’t think they are bringing any attorneys in to help with this contract. I wish I knew for sure.

    Hey Dog, 10pin . I just remembered, 705's negotiator was (and may still be) recovering from surgery. I hope he was at least in on conference calls, etc.
