Inside, they found the stuff that "Law & Order" episodes are made of: $179,980 in cash, bundled with rubber bands and tucked inside two plastic bags.

Coyman's old union, International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 25, was notorious for its organized crime ties in the 1990s. Years ago, Coyman's name was mentioned in news articles about allegations that union officials were shaking down Hollywood film crews and forcing producers to give cushy film set jobs to gangland hoodlums. He'd worked as a driver on some of the films in question.

And the best they can come up with are his name was mentioned in allegations back in the 1990s

Most people living in the United States know little about the International Workers' Day of May Day. For many others there is an assumption that it is a holiday celebrated in state communist countries like Cuba or the former Soviet Union. Most Americans don't realize that May Day has its origins here in this country and is as "American" as baseball and apple pie, and stemmed from the pre-Christian holiday of Beltane, a celebration of rebirth and fertility.

In the late nineteenth century, the working class was in constant struggle to gain the 8-hour work day. Working conditions were severe and it was quite common to work 10 to 16 hour days in unsafe conditions. Death and injury were commonplace at many work places and inspired such books as Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and Jack London's The Iron Heel. As early as the 1860's, working people agitated to shorten the workday without a cut in pay, but it wasn't until the late 1880's that organized labor was able to garner enough strength to declare the 8-hour workday. This proclamation was without consent of employers, yet demanded by many of the working class.

I recieved this in an Email from Teamsters Take action.

Teamsters Helped Her Family Achieve the American Dream
In her remarks at the National Action Network’s 14th Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, April 12, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis shared her personal experiences growing up in a Teamster household. (View the video here.)

Solis credited the union with providing her family the security of strong wages and benefits that allowed them to move up into the middle class and fondly recalled when her father became a steward for his bargaining unit at work.

“One of the proudest moments I had was when he became the shop steward for his Teamster union and organized immigrant workers who couldn’t speak English,” Solis said. “He said – I’m going to stand up for these workers.”

Solis shared how her father’s work helped provide good wages, benefits and retirement plans for workers throughout the community. His job also provided her with the opportunity to become the first of her seven siblings to go to college. Her younger sisters followed in her footsteps, with some even receiving Teamster scholarships.

“That’s what put our foot in the door to be in the middle class,” Solis said. “My father and us, we stood tall – we were one of the first families in our neighborhood to own our own home. That gave us so much pride – having a piece of the American Dream.”
Addressing that problem was daunting. But then a small company that has tried to make a name for itself as a health care cost-cutter asked to take on a case study, a pilot case.

Instead, it has come back to lawmakers with so-called "right to work" statutes, attacks on traditional defined benefit pensions, attempts to kill project labor agreements, and "paycheck protection" schemes designed to evict workers from politics.

I am pleased to announce that workers at Republic Services/Allied Waste – the nation’s second largest solid waste and recycling company – have reached an agreement with Republic Services in Mobile, Ala. The strike ended on Friday when Republic agreed to meet with Local 991, and the disputed contract was unanimously ratified yesterday by the Mobile workers.

All 24 Republic Services workers in Mobile began the strike on Thursday night, March 22, in response to Republic’s withdrawal from a tentative agreement, which the Union alleged violated federal labor law. Picketing related to the Mobile work stoppage occurred at Republic’s facilities in Columbus, Ohio, Buffalo, New York, and in Washington State. Teamster members at those facilities honored the picket lines.

I hope all members of 879 read this and pass it on to all who don't. Your leadership is trying very hard to cover up thier misdoing, double dipping buying stuff for personal use and using your funds for this. the elcetion is this year you must stand up and say enough is enough. Don't let your president run your local to the ground, don't let his team snow you in thinking everything is alright, it isn't. Open yor eyes, ask questions look at the books. Money is flowing from your bank into the hands of the president's teams hands. They drink and eat on your dime. This is also the person who is the sec. treasure of the j.c., hope they are more prudent then he is with his local's money!
Remember to vote for who ever runs against them, slean up your local and get someonewho is going to run it responsably, with morals, knowing it's your money and not thiers. Stand up and say enough is enough. Let the leaders of your j.c. and your leaders at the top (Teamster Canada) know that what has/is happen that it's wrong, and you what changes

What companies are Teamster & OTR for the West & south west areas?
Im use to being gone long amounts of time 2-3 months. So I dont need to be home monthly, just a week every 2-3 months.

I was wondering what the steps were if you had problems with your local. I went down to the hall to het a copy of my contract and all they had were old ones, and said it was expired. It was ratified 2 years ago, but we never got a signed copy and our raise was hand written in. That is the first problem. This is for the ready mix side. Now in the quarry we have non union drivers hauling material to the plant. Our 1 teamster at the quary called our BA, and after a few times he finally came out, talked to a supervisor then left with out telling the brother what was going on. I called and left a message with our secretary treasure and haven't heard anything back.
I was woundering where do I go next. (It is said that our BA did get a family member a job at the quarry quite a while back, but hes not there anymore.)

The union tells a different story. The most vocal pro-union employees have not been deemed eligible to return, union representatives said. Last week the union filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming that the store's closure is retaliation for employees' organizing activities.

While most large labor union organizing stories of the last decade have been dark tales of hostile employers, indifferent government bureaucrats and powerless workers, one such effort stands out in hopeful contrast—the national school bus drivers campaign spearheaded by the Teamsters union.

The campaign marked a major milestone last month when it notched an election victory in the northern California towns of Hayward and Livermore. That vote added only 159 workers employed by Durham School Services to the union rolls, but it also represented the 300th bus driver election victory for the Teamsters over the last six years. Cumulatively, the election wins have resulted in the addition of some 32,000 new union members at Teamster locals across the country.
There's no denying the congressional Democrats and President Obama have been major disappointments, and there's no denying that the forces arrayed against America's unions have done considerable damage. Those are facts. But despite the hype being generated by Fox News, and the self-serving propaganda being spread by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the anti-labor crowd has pretty much run out of steam. They've lost their mojo. Here are 10 reasons why organized labor will ultimately win.
