In latest China pivot, Trump says partial trade deal might not be completed this year

    He still is winning.

Can Dear Leader EVER tell the truth?
Not so much about the truth. More likely early onset dementia. Many of the issues that we see and hear each day describe exactly how Trump is acting.
For instance, subtle short-term memory changes, difficulty finding the right words, changes in mood, being repetitive and struggling to adapt to change.
All clear signs that something isn't right.
But the brown shirts will march behind, like the good soldiers they are, and worship their false God.

This president has single-handedly done more damage in his term than any other president I can think of in recent times. We can't get him out of office quick enough!

Trade Battles With China Could Damage 1.47 Million U.S. Jobs, Says Study

President Donald Trump’s long-running trade battle with China is putting nearly 1.47 million U.S. jobs at risk, according to a new study commissioned by the Port of Los Angeles and written by global consulting firm BST Associates. The report was unveiled in Washington at a news conference at the National Retail Federation on Nov. 12.

In dollar figures, the numbers are substantial. The tariffs against China, and the ones imposed by Beijing against the U.S., threaten more than $186 billion in U.S. economic activity, and the cost to manufacturers and consumers are equal to as much as $35 billion in added costs of products.

“Very simply put, less cargo means less jobs,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka, who leads the nation’s busiest cargo port. “I know some reform has to take place. But going about this on our own, simply giving sales leads to other countries to take our business is wrong.”

    500 plus days !
People are harmed that may never recover. I fear the large mega agri businesses will spring on all the bankrupt farm lands and we'll pay the price later.

SHORT ON CASH, SOME FARMERS WILL SELL ASSETS DURING WINTER
Low commodity prices and high costs are tightening the credit squeeze on the farm sector, with little expectation of improvement in the near term, according to ag bankers in the Midwest and Plains. Some farmers and ranchers will liquidate assets during the winter to stay afloat, and some highly leveraged operators will be forced out of business, the bankers said in quarterly reports released by the Chicago and Kansas City Federal Reserve banks on Thursday.
“Ag credit conditions continue to move downward,” said economist David Oppedahl of the Chicago Fed in a video summary. “Bankers told us they are expecting to see a higher level of foreclosures and some sell-offs, possibly some equipment and land, over this winter.”
Slightly more than half — 54% — of the bankers anticipated there would be more forced sales or liquidations of farm assets by financially distressed farmers in the next three to six months than there were during the same period a year ago.

Local to North Dakota, this story claims farm bankruptcy's have soared. Not just because of the tariffs, but overall weak farm prices and planting issues.
So knowing the farmers were going though a rough period, why didn't this administration understand this and look to other areas to fight China on the unfair trade practices.

Farm bankruptcies increase nationwide, report says
The report, by Farm Bureau economist John Newton, details the number of bankruptcies per state in the 12-month period ending in September 2019, how those bankruptcy numbers compare to the year prior, and an overall discussion of farm income.
Farm income is at record-high levels, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. According to the report, not only are bankruptcies up, but farm debt is projected to reach record-high levels and producers are taking longer to repay their loans.
The region ( midwest ) has a high number of dairy farms and row crop farms, both sectors stressed by current events. Dairy prices have been low for multiple years, and trade issues, including tariffs and lack of trade agreements, have hit corn and soybean growers particularly hard.
“Those particular agricultural commodities are really struggling from a financial perspective,” she says.
The report says bankruptcies still have not reached the level of the farm crisis of the 1980s, and some farmers are finding relief from trade assistance, farm bill programs, crop insurance and disaster aid. Those measures could bring the numbers down in the future, the report predicts.

Yet another independent study just found Americans have been stuck paying Trump's tariffs.

The costs of punitive tariffs that rolled out against China over the past year have largely fallen on US businesses and consumers, the New York Fed said Monday.
The findings added to a long string of independent research with the same results.
That contradicts a repeated claim by President Donald Trump that China pays tariffs.

The central bank found in a new study that Chinese businesses have not significantly lowered prices on exports to the US in response to the trade dispute that began in early 2018. That signaled that Americans have instead had to absorb additional import taxes levied by the Trump administration, estimated at around $40 billion annually.

"The continued stability of import prices for goods from China means US firms and consumers have to pay the tariff tax," Fed economists Matthew Higgins, Thomas Klitgaard, and Michael Nattinger wrote in the study.
I find this hard to believe. LOL

It's now 513 days since the "easy to win" trade war, instigated by Trump, has been on-going.
Any day now a new deal will be reached ... any day now ...

China export pain mounts as tariffs bite
China’s exports to the U.S. contracted heavily again last month as the ongoing trade impasse between the world’s two largest economies continued.
President Trump continues to give mixed signals on the likelihood of a trade deal with China as a December 15 deadline for another round of tariffs approaches.
But even if a deal is reached, Port of Los Angeles Executive Gene Seroka cautioned the port’s Board of Harbor Commissioners last week that it may take months or years for trans-Pacific trade volumes to snap back.
As previously reported in FreightWaves, the United Nations believes that U.S. consumers are being hurt just as much by the ongoing trade war as Chinese exporters. The same goes for U.S. exporters to China, particularly in the agricultural sphere.
It found that Taiwan was the largest beneficiary of the trade diversion effects of United States tariffs on China, accounting for additional exports to the United States of almost US$4.2 billion in the first half of 2019, mostly due to an increase in exports of office machinery and communication equipment.
Mexico’s increase in exports to the United States due to tariffs on China are quantified to be about US$3.5 billion, mostly in the agri-food, transport equipment and electrical machinery sectors.

Trump says he will reimpose steel and aluminum tariffs on Brazil and Argentina, opening new trade war fronts

The White House says the two nations are “presiding over a massive devaluation of their currencies. which is not good for our farmers.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-po...zil-argentina/

Trump said he would impose tariffs, effective immediately, on all steel and aluminum shipped into the United States from Brazil and Argentina.

“Brazil and Argentina have been presiding over a massive devaluation of their currencies. which is not good for our farmers,” Trump said in Monday morning tweet. He then directed his attention to the Federal Reserve, saying the central bank should “act so that countries, of which there are many, no longer take advantage of our strong dollar by further devaluing their currencies. This makes it very hard for our [manufacturers] & farmers to fairly export their goods. Lower Rates & Loosen — Fed!”

The surprise announcement came after it appeared as though the White House was preparing to dial back its adversarial trade approach in the lead up to next year’s election. The administration appeared close to a deal with House Democrats to revamp the North American Free Trade Agreement, and tensions with China had eased in recent weeks.

It's now over 518 days since that "easy to win" tariff war was started by a president that doesn't have a clue.
Now he just thinks waiting until after the 2020 election is best ... yet he said it, but just thinks it ?
Every day I wonder if the babbling orange baboon can say anything else stupid ... and he never disappoints.

Trump’s comment on waiting until after election for China trade deal could reflect bluster — or difficult state of talks
President Donald Trump on Tuesday made some incendiary comments about the prospect of reaching a deal with China. Whether they reflect the U.S. stance or just Trump’s penchant for trying to negotiate a better outcome, remains to be seen.

Here’s what Trump said at a London news conference: “A China trade deal is dependent on one thing — do I want to make it.”

Later, he added: “I have no deadline, no. In some ways, I think it’s better to wait until after the election if you want to know the truth. But I’m not going to say that, I just think that.”
Yes, I am sure that those who are hurting, due to this stupid trade war, are saying the same thing !
By this time next year all the family run farms will be out of business, but the mega corporate run farms will be happy to buy up all that acreage.
