Default Airgas Drivers Join Teamsters Local 25

    thumbsup:

Local 25 in Boston recently organized a group of 17 tankhaul workers who deliver air cylinders to commercial entities in the area.

The new Teamsters work for Airgas East and approached Local 25 a few months ago. The local already represents another Airgas bargaining unit in the area and those drivers frequently run into the nonunion workers.

“The drivers talk to each other, and when the company started taking things away from the nonunion workers, they saw an opportunity to come together,” said Robert Fabrizio, a Local 25 business agent. “Their overall treatment wasn’t great, they had no job security as at-will employees. They wanted the Teamsters to represent them.”

Local 25 is currently in negotiations for a contract for these new tankhaul Teamsters.

Default Teamsters, Airgas employees on West Side, reject contract

On Saturday, Teamster members working for Airgas Mid-America in Charleston unanimously rejected the company’s offer for a collective bargaining agreement. This would be the first contract negotiated by the union since the company’s employees on Charleston’s West Side voted to have the Teamsters represent them in July 2014.

The Airgas facility, which has 22 employees represented by the Teamsters, fills and distributes compressed gases, including oxygen, argon, nitrogen and air. The company’s main facility is in the Patrick Street Plaza.
Local Airgas workers rejected the proposed contract in large part because the company refused to raise wages for their Charleston employees to a rate comparable to wages paid by its local competitor — Matheson Tri-Gas — or wages paid at other Airgas locations around the country where workers are represented by Teamsters.

AirGas ... a large multinational corporation that has been in the news lately. Let's hope those employees hold fast and demand an equitable contract.

Teamsters Urge Airgas Investors to Vote Against Directors
(WASHINGTON) – In a letter to Airgas [NYSE: ARG] stockholders, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall is urging shareholders to withhold support for all three independent directors standing for re-election at the company’s Annual Meeting on August 4, 2015, in Philadelphia. The independent directors are James Hovey, Paula Sneed and David Stout.

“These long-tenured directors, who each joined the board in 1999, and serve together on the board’s Governance and Compensation Committee, have failed to implement a proposal to declassify the board of directors despite strong majority support from shareholders over the past three years,” the letter reads.

Teamsters Call for Director Resignations at Airgas
(PHILADELPHIA) –A majority, 53 percent, of Airgas [NYSE:ARG] shareholders voting in yesterday’s director elections withheld support from three independent board members standing for re-election. Excluding the shares held by board members and executive officers, the “no” vote was 62 percent of shares cast or more than 51 percent of total outstanding shares. View more photos from the event, here.

“Airgas investors have lost confidence in the leadership of this company,” said Ken Hall, General Secretary-Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a long-term Airgas shareholder and representative of Airgas employees throughout the U.S. “These directors should resign from the board immediately to make way for new directors who will be responsive and accountable to the shareholders they are elected to represent.”

In a July 2015 letter to Airgas shareholders, Hall urged investors to withhold support from independent directors Hovey, Sneed and Stout for failing to de-stagger the company’s board despite strong majority support for the reform three years running. Airgas Workers Join Teamsters
(LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.) –– Drivers, plant operators and fillers at the Airgas [NYSE: ARG] facility in Islandia, N.Y., have voted to join Teamsters Local 282. The successful effort was the culmination of hard work by the organizing committee and business agent Mike Bourgal.

“Nationwide, this company has recently changed their attitude toward their hardworking, loyal workforce and this vote is an example of what happens when employers disrespect their employees,” said Keith Gleason, Director of the Teamsters Tankhaul Division.

“These workers recognized the only path to dignity, respect and security on the job was to join the 40 other bargaining units represented by the Teamsters at Airgas facilities,” Bourgal said.

Teamsters Protest at Air Liquide Headquarters

(HOUSTON) – Today, Airgas employees and Teamsters representatives protested outside Air Liquide’s U.S. headquarters as Airgas shareholders approved the purchase of Airgas [NYSE: ARG] by France-based Air Liquide for $10.3 billion.

Airgas employees held signs that read, “Air Liquide: Stop the Attacks,” demanding that Air Liquide stop Airgas’ attacks on workers and their unions.

“Last year, Airgas locked out workers in Massachusetts, halting deliveries to hospitals and other customers throughout New England. And across America, Airgas has been conducting a campaign to introduce wage discrimination schemes, threaten workers with loss of healthcare benefits and wages during collective bargaining, and attempting to break its workers’ unions by illegally threatening union activists,” said Ken Hall, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer.

Teamsters Protest Air Liquide at French Embassy in D.C.

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Teamsters representatives protested Air Liquide outside the French Embassy, the day after Airgas shareholders voted to approve the purchase by France-based Air Liquide of Airgas [NYSE: ARG] for $10.3 billion.

The Teamsters held signs and banners that read, “Air Liquide: Stop the Attacks,” and “Air Liquide: Arrêtez les Attaques,” demanding that Air Liquide stop Airgas’ attacks on workers and their rights to form unions and negotiate contracts in the United States and Canada.

“Air Liquide’s acquisition, Airgas, has been abusing workers by locking them out during contract negotiations, threatening workers with loss of healthcare benefits and wages, and attempting to break its workers’ unions by illegally threatening union activists,” said Ken Hall, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer.

Air Liquide/Airgas Teamsters Vote to Strike

(CINCINNATI) – Drivers and plant operation workers at industrial gas company Airgas [NYSE: ARG] have voted unanimously to authorize a strike in a secret ballot vote.

The workers, members of Teamsters Local 100 in Cincinnati, angrily voiced their opinions on the company’s contract proposals that would destroy job security and seniority, as well as remove the workers’ legal rights to honor picket lines.
