Default YRC unit New Penn seeks operational changes as parent, Teamsters negotiate contract

New Penn Motor Express, the Northeast U.S. unit of less-than-truckload carrier YRC Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ:YRCW) notified the Teamsters union last week it plans to make four changes to its network operations, moves that come as YRC and the Teamsters continue talks to replace the current five-year collective-bargaining agreement that expires March 31.

The proposed “change of operations,” which Lebanon, Pa.-based New Penn must file with the Teamsters before implementation, would allow the regional carrier to shut its terminal in Rochester, N.Y. and consolidate operations there at terminals in Buffalo and Syracuse.

A second change would allow New Penn to close its terminal in Milton, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles north of Harrisburg, and spread those operations across facilities in Reading, Scranton, Altoona, and Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

A third change would eliminate trucker Central Freight Lines as New Penn’s interline carrier for freight moving to and from Florida and Texas, and replace Central with YRC Freight, YRC’s long-haul LTL unit.

The fourth change would add Trenton, N.J. as a second consolidation terminal for freight originating in the New Penn service area and headed west through an interline arrangement with Reddaway, New Penn’s West Coast sister company. The addition of Trenton would take the pressure off its lone consolidation point in Camp Hill, New Penn said. New Penn drivers would transport the westbound freight from Trenton to the Reddaway interline point, according to the company.

I think these plans for COO got put on hold due to New England Motor Freight Closing. Also heard a really positive rumor about the negotiations but won't discuss because it is just rumor.

2 weeks until we are supposed to be under new contract....yet no official word on what we might be voting on....Is this how we should be treated as employees and members of a union......How long did they know that April 1 is to be the day? And no word from union or company.....................seems like we are not respected.......do we matter to either? Or are we just some kind of game.....people to be used and abused?

Looks like they have a tentative agreement. If 9 hour bids still exist...this will be my last year around trucks.....tired of the whole ripoff business where they act like they own your WHOLE day and night...and it does not compensate near enough..If the leaders did not stand up for this for us....they should not be union leaders....and many should not have been for decades now. 2 guys on the same bid doing the same job should not be paid 2 different rates...I'm about done with the scam and the stupidity of union leaders and drivers letting it be that way as if it is necessary for the company to make money by abusing employees with the 9 hour bid. It's like paying $50/week for a day morning 'normal' start time......another way to pay you less AND keep you there late for their precious stupid late pickups. Don't wonder why there is a driver shortage. Nobody wants to be 'forced' to work over 8 and 10 and 12 hours on a constant basis while still affording only mediocre lives. ..Time to start looking into another line of work that does not have the mentality of 'if you want money you must give your whole day and night for the spoiled customers we serve and the spoiled investors who make way to much on their investment in us. There's a driver shortage. Not a freight shortage. Therefore the economy should be making efforts to compensate those who do drive....but they do nothing but expect more for less......the places who employ shippers and receivers who do not have a CDL, should be adjusting their schedules and payrates to compensate us, the ones who there is a shortage of....meaning they stay late to have stuff ready for us early....Not us stay late to compensate for their set schedule lives......The idea of not going home till the job is done needs to spread to those who we deal with more than...We should be picking up from 2-4 and heading home just like the rest of the spoiled world....Not working our entire 14 while 2 shifts of theirs go home.......Any hours worked after 4PM should be compensated a helluva lot more that any are willing to pay. From K-12 we are trained into a dayshift life.....and as soon as we step into this stupid business that goes out the window..
The education in this nation has done nothing but weaken the mentality and dignity of people like us....anything for a dollar...as long as it takes...even if it takes all day and unpredictability every day.....And we have no union leaders who could teach and lead the workers into the right mentality for decades...........It's no wonder we have drug and crime problems in this stupid nation...We should consider us lucky that people are not ripping the nation apart brick by brick............................................. ..I rn out of my blood pressure pill yesterday...LOL.

AND ANOTHER THING LOL.........I am sick and tired of being locked outside of customers in the weather not knowing if somebody is gonna let me in or not...Our time is just as precious as anybody else's.. And tired of being ignored on phones and sent to answering messages. The dock needs immediate accessibility by drivers...no more wasting our times for very rich people to get richer and live the kind of schedules and lives they want at our times expense...Gaurdshack lines, locked doors and gates, locked dock areas with slow systems to let us keep moving...all need to go. Too much work and not enough time in the day to do it and a billion stupid ways to slow us down more....................in the ideal world with driver shortage...we should be able to tell the company...I WILL BE AT THE TIMCLOCK AT MY 8th HOUR AND PUNCHING OUT WHENEVER I WANT.....AND NO PICKUP OR FREIGHT IS PAYING ME ENOUGH FOR IT TO BE OTHERWISE...IF THE BANKS AND INVESTORS NEED THAT STUPID LATE PICKUP.......THE KEYS ARE IN THE TRUCK...THEY CAN GLADLY GO OUT AND PICK THE GARBAGE UP ALL NIGHT IF THEY WANT. BUT I'M GONING HOME....YOU DON'T PAY ENOUGH.
