Default Corporations, including FedEx, occupy congress

COLUMN-The corporations that occupy Congress: Johnston - TrustLaw
Some of the biggest companies in the United States have been firing workers and in some cases lobbying for rules that depress wages at the very time that jobs are needed, pay is low and the federal budget suffers from a lack of revenue.
Federal Express spent $25 million lobbying to protect a rule that makes it virtually impossible for its express delivery workers to unionize. That's 67 percent of what it paid in taxes.

FedEx says it was "educating lawmakers" about a proposal "that would cripple competition in the express delivery industry and hinder our nation's future economic success."

The Teamsters, who represent drivers at United Parcel Service, say FedEx was protecting a special interest rule that shorts workers. UPS pays its unionized drivers 53 percent to 104 percent more per hour than FedEx does.

Wrong again. Actually it's an attack on Fred. If you must be critical at least be relevant. Surely you don't deny the huge success at FedEx? Too bad YRC got caught in a crossfire they could have been a contender

An attack on Fred? That is strange? Here I thought you were slapping the backs of those boys on Fred's payroll. You know the ones? FedEx Nuno points them out all the time. They reside in the House and Senate. They fund your right wing rags. They lobby to beat the living hell out of the unionized workforce in America.....You wouldn't have the Brooklyn Bridge up for sale would you?

    hope the link works

    Published: December 03, 1995

After contract negotiations between FedEx and the Air Line Pilots Assn. union broke off Saturday, the union ordered its pilots not to work overtime, a move the union said would slow deliveries on up to 300,000 packages a day.

But many pilots crossed what the union calls "the invisible picket line" by volunteering to fly overtime, allowing FedEx to meet its delivery schedule on all flights this weekend, according to Shirley Clark of FedEx.

Although the union technically represents all of FedEx's 2,900 pilots, analysts note that only about half are actually members, making it difficult for the union to gather support for a work slowdown, let alone a strike.

"So many of the pilots are against the union, I don't see how it [a strike] could happen," said Steve Lewins, an analyst at Gruntal & Co. in New York.
I can't find the link but I remember reading one strike the pilots had was a dismal failure. Fred closed the best long-haul flights and parked the planes in the desert. Pilots called off the strike and settled for less than what was offered before the strike. I doubt most drivers at FedEx want a union. The pilots union got little support from the pilots

Would they say this about any other capitalists seeking to make more money, other than union workers.........That comment is way out of line. Cripple competition? How? Hinder our country's economic success? How? Bunch of loyinf , lazy, greedy, uncompetitive crud, IMO. FEDEX management are the ones who are afraid to compete. Not the unions.
