    They must be around somewhere.

You want to hear a funny one.

One of our drivers was talking union to a Fedex driver and that fedex driver was comparing our salary and benefits. He said and I quote, " we haven't taken a pay increase for the past 12 months and are paying more in healthcare co-insurance and have forgone our 401K match to help the company(fedex) make it through this economic slowdown." Fedex is making money, There share holders must love the fact that there propaganda machine works so well on the employees. The must laugh every time they cash there dividend checks. When are people going to realize that they are being hood winked? If a company is is bad economic shape, that's one thing. but fedex is just using the economy to dupe its workforce and some of them go right along with it.

The propoganda machine at FedEx is alive and well along with the propoganda machine in the US. These poor buggers are getting hit with this baloney from all sides. They hear it from their company...They hear it from the right wing media....What else are they supposed to believe? This "be thankful you have a job" line is going to wear out soon. Then what will the companies do?

I do feel there will be a great deal of pressure put on the current administration to push forward with a little piece of labor legislation (EFCA) that had the non union companies pissing in their pants...It still does for that matter...And rightfully so. The right wingers have lied through their teeth regarding this bill. Why is that?

I got into it with my anti-union brother and sister yesterday! I explained how the teamsters saved YRC in a big way and that is the only reason they are still in business. I have gone on and on about what an awesome company ABF is and what a great job my husband had there compared to what he is doing now while on layoff. But no matter what I said, it didn't make a difference. They have a very negative image of unions and there seems to be no changing their minds. Whats really interesting is that they have both had union jobs in the past (and both got laid off from those jobs, never to get them back). Seems they blame the union rather then the companies for every problem.

That is the problem trying to get these non-union companies to organize,as alot of old freight guys that lost there jobs to closing and the union did nothing for there company so why should I join now to have this company close and not do nothing for me again. We really should of had an advantage with all the old ex teamsters working for the non-union companies in getting the union word out to the non union employees and getting them organized. These guys need to realize that no union freight comapnies and the wages and working conditions are going to go to hell and who do we have to blame for this , no one but ourselves.

My husband and I never had any experience with unions until he came to ABF. Wow, what a difference. Well, my step dad did work at Ford while I was growing up but I really had no idea what a union or UAW was all about. Now I and my husband are total pro union. My husband has had to work non union jobs since his layoff and basically life totally sucks right now. Don't know a nice way to put it. They work him half to death, we never see each other and his pay is beyond bad. He makes less than he did 10 years ago! (he only came to ABF in 2006). My family members see what we are going through since he lost his job and yet it does not change their opinion. I just don't get it.

I think this is the reason some companies secretly don't WANT the economy to improve.

That's the 'blame the union first' mentality that is so pervasive in society and unfortunately even within the membership. There's even a website (or two) devoted to it.
