Re: Union busting 101
It is truly a shame the UNION cannot use the same tactics they use to use back in Jimmy Hoffa's days. I'm pretty sure there are many of us who would love to show this guy what "FEAR" means and see what kind of fear tactics the old man has. No true TEAMSTER is easily intimidated. and they NEVER back down!

We can use the same tactics brother. There is some jail time that comes along with it now though.

This era has many advantages, like new laws and regulations, and labor friendly protection, TV and CNN, and more newspapers and books, etc., and.....we have The Internet!

Re: Union busting 101
Just watched that video again and his comment about 'the destruction of the collective spirit' really struck home this time. In my shop in Livermore we have never had an official Union meeting, only one or two sanctioned by the company on company paid time and only for some, not all, drivers. We have never had a Shop Steward election since I've been there and the one appointed seems very involved with the managers and just spent over a month in L.A. working for them on a new contract start up, and he lives or lived with a manager too, plus all his business is secret and private. "all I do for you" means nothing to me if it's secret and if drivers are being harassed into taking cuts in hours, losing benefits, and having to wait for next day start times every night like part-time helpers.
Where is this collective spirit? It feels more like 'divide and conquer' with senior drivers taking work from part-time drivers by working on their days off without considering what part-time status means and the loss of benefits. There is no Union presence. There is no Union leadership. And there is a feeling of let things be so long as I'm getting by ok.
...is this the road to Union Busting? step by step year by year? I don't know, and that bothers me. Drivers seem to feel that talking is bad.
There is no real Union here, just a sort of 'shut up and let THEM take care of things' mentality. Is that normal? Should I be afraid to say anything because things could get worse?
