The staff has agreed to merge our two Boeing threads to make it easier for us and for you to find Boeing news. I don't usually make an announcement when merging threads but these were both huge threads. To prevent any confusion, just wanted to let you know what we have done. From here on out, this is the Boeing Thread.

'It's because we were union members': Boeing fires workers who organized

Workers terminated by the aircraft maker in South Carolina see their dismissals as part of efforts to stifle a nascent union

Richard Mester worked for Boeing in South Carolina as a flight safety inspector for five years before being suddenly fired – along with two other employees – in November 2018 for allegedly failing to report a bird strike. However, the bad news also came shortly after the company was told Mester had been elected a union steward.

“I have 30 years’ experience as an engine guy, so I was taken back by it because I don’t miss bird strikes,” Mester told the Guardian.

An air force veteran, Mester had just bought a house and had two daughters in college when he was terminated. Mester and his colleagues have filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board alleging there was no bird strike at all, but rather that this is an excuse to fire workers involved in unionization efforts.

In an update to your last post Lifer:

Congress Turns Up Heat on Boeing for Firing SC IAM Members

More than 70 members of Congress, led by U.S. Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), sent a letter demanding answers from Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg about workplace procedures and recent terminations of six IAM union supporters at Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner production facility in North Charleston, S.C..

“As policy makers, many of us have already expressed concern in a previous letter about your company’s ongoing refusal to recognize the union in South Carolina, and we write now because we are disappointed to learn that Boeing discharged six union supporters shortly before the holiday season last year,” the letter reads. “We are unsatisfied with the explanations these workers were given from Boeing for their dismissal, as well as the continued refusal to bargain with the IAMAW.”

In May 2018, Boeing flight readiness technicians and inspectors in South Carolina voted to join the IAM. Since then, Boeing has refused to negotiate with the IAM. Since last year’s vote, six people have been terminated for showing their union support.

SC Boeing union supporters say they’re targeted as they wait for resolution to year-old vote

A year after voting to join a union, flight-line employees at Boeing Co.’s North Charleston campus describe a workplace filled with paranoia and punishment.

With their status as International Association of Machinists members still unresolved — Boeing is appealing the May 31, 2018, election — workers wonder why it’s taking the National Labor Relations Board so long to make a ruling on their case.

The company isn’t recognizing the union’s authority while the legal challenge is pending.

And that’s leaving supporters feeling vulnerable.

“After the vote, we didn’t exist any more,” said Rich Mester, a flight-readiness technician who was fired in November purportedly for overlooking a bird strike on a 787-10 engine and is now suing Boeing for wrongful termination. The case is pending.

I'm sure Boeing will just get a slap on the wrist. They are good buddies with the White House, aren't they ?

NLRB Director Rules That Boeing Illegally Fired Workers Who Supported Union
“A regional director for the National Labor Relations Board has ruled that Boeing Co. unjustly fired five workers who support the International Association of Machinists union at the aerospace giant’s 787 Dreamliner campus in North Charleston.
The ruling includes three flight-line inspectors who were fired for purportedly failing to notice a bird strike on an engine following a test flight of a 787-10 for United Airlines. Rich Mester, one of those fired, said Boeing never provided any evidence that a bird strike had occurred, although a company investigator said a feather had been found.
The two other union supporters were fired for allegedly violating Boeing’s safety rules.

The NLRB ruled against the mechanics in South Carolina Boeing plant.

Boeing defeats attempt to unionize South Carolina plant
A bid by the International Association of Machinists union to unionize 178 mechanics at Boeing's South Carolina factory has failed.
The National Labor Relations Board on Monday ruled that IAM's bid to micro-organize one group of Boeing 2,700 workers at its 787 Dreamliner assembly plant in Charleston, South Carolina, was not appropriate for the purposes of conducting a union election.
The IAM, which represents thousands of workers at Boeing facilities in the Puget Sound region, tried to organize solely the mechanics in South Carolina after two prior efforts to unionize more workers there were unsuccessful.
Boeing South Carolina argued in legal filings that the group of 178 mechanics — flight-line readiness technicians and flight-line readiness technician inspectors — must be included in the larger community of workers at the plant.
"This unprincipled decision from the NLRB's anti-worker majority board will not stop our organizing campaign at Boeing South Carolina. We will not relent or back down," the IAM said in a statement.
