Default How 2 Tier Contracts Became Labor's Undoing

    https://www.thenation.com/article/ho...abors-undoing/

In a time when all companies have cried and whined about driver shortages.........not one attempted to put guys on at top rate, did they?
None, union or non, attempted to do away with a huge part of the problem.
Nobody has a year or 2 to risk without health insurance as a casual at UPS Parcel as a feeder driver. No experienced driver has 3 years to get back to his normal pay.
Nobody has 4 years at UPS Freight. Nobody has 4 years in the NMFA at YRC or ABF.
Even the nonsense have tiers and they have the same shortage of drivers.

A one tier payrate should be a goal in all contracts imo.
    Otherwise we keep ourselves trapped.

Maybe I am off on the concept I'm mad about. Maybe it is not the tiered system that is bugging me but instead, the progression.
    Is out system tiered?
It confused me when I looked it up.

It's just ridiculous taking as much time as I listed in the first post to get back to the pay we are at now if we started over elsewhere either by choice, or if the place went under.
We already know the job. Sure there's gonna be some procedure differences.....but it isn't gonna take even a year to know it pretty darned good. Maybe even a few weeks..
.....so the progression is way too long.
Somebody may be able to describe the tiered system.better...Is what we have it...or not? I'm confused.

Has it always been a progression at each company even before deregulation? Or was there a time when you could leave one company and start at another at one rate for everybody who knew how to do the job?
You already start by losing vacation time.
