Default Workers at Auxvasse Dollar General vote to unionize

These stores are everywhere! This could turn into something big!

AUXVASSE — Workers at the Dollar General store in Auxvasse voted on Friday to unionize.

While union protections are up in the air until Missouri residents vote on “right-to-work” rules next year, the Auxvasse workers may be the first Dollar General employees in the country to accept union representation.

As far as he knows, said Collin Reischman, the spokesman for the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655, other Dollar General store workers have voted on union representation, but this is the first store where they have voted in favor. The workers supported union representation by a margin of 2-to-1, Reischman said, though he did not know the exact tally.

Reischman said they will start negotiating a contract with Dollar General on behalf of the store’s employees in the next few weeks.

Dollar General requests union vote recount

    What a bunch of nonsense.

AUXVASSE, Mo. — Dollar General corporate officials are claiming underhanded tactics were behind the successful union vote at the Auxvasse store.

The effects of the union vote may be reaching employees at other area Dollar General stores, as well.

On Thursday, Dollar General filed objections to the vote with the St. Louis regional office of the National Labor Relations Board, according to a statement sent by Dollar General Corp. The company wants Regional Director Leonard Perez to overturn the results and order a new vote.

According to the statement, six Auxvasse employees voted on Dec. 8. Of the six, four voted in favor of letting United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655 represent them in bargaining with the corporation. This matches information from union spokesperson Collin Reischman, who stated Dec. 11 that Dollar General employees voted at a 2-1 ratio in favor.

However, Dollar General officials claim shortly after the six votes were counted, two of the four employees who voted "yes" told the company they wanted to change their votes. The employees have not been identified.

"These employees shared that they felt unduly pressured into casting their votes for the union and provided details regarding the manner in which they were either promised money for their vote or feared retaliation," Dollar General's statement reads.

UFCW sees breakthrough at Dollar General in Missouri

AUXVASSE, Mo. (PAI)—In a breakthrough in the fight to organize convenience store workers—some of the most-exploited workers nationwide—St. Louis-based United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655 won the first union recognition vote at a Dollar General store in the U.S., in Auxvasse, Mo., by a 2-to-1 ratio.

“We want to have our voice heard,” Dollar General worker Adam Cook told local TV reporters in the Columbia area.
“These hard-working men and women voted for a better life,” said Local 655 President David Cook. “They voted for the union difference, which means a voice at work, better wages and benefits, and the power of uniting with their co-workers.”

The 66 percent vote for Local 655 made that clear, Cook said. “Dollar General workers felt uniting with the union is the road to achieving the American dream of becoming a solid part of the working middle class,” he said.

“I believe this is a positive sign for Missouri when middle class workers everywhere go to the polls next year to defeat the phony ‘right-to-work (for less)’ law that ill-informed legislators are trying to force onto Missouri workers,” Cook added.

I'm sure theh may have wanted to change their botes after voting yed. They probably had some management figure telling them wgat was going to happen to them. Almist bet the obes who claimed to be threatened was from a company official instead of a bully union representative. Just my two cents wirth.

I remember reading that Dollar General was a driving force in the overtime rule.

Labor board officer legitimizes Dollar General union vote

I was in my local Dollar General on Friday and a conversation was going on between the manager and a worker about the union coming in. First off the worker could not remember if it was Louisiana or Missouri, she then went on to say the manager quit because of the union and someone else who I cannot remember now. Well, me and my daughter got very quiet and they knew we were listening to them. I was ready to jump into the conversation if needed but the manager did not say a word and the worker shut up.
Dollar General is disappointed that the National Labor Relations Board took a step on Thursday toward legitimizing its Auxvasse employees’ vote to unionize, the company said in a written statement.

In December, the six eligible employees of the Dollar General store in Auxvasse voted 4-2 to accept representation from the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655, becoming the first Dollar General store in the country to unionize. A week later, Dollar General filed an objection over the vote to the St. Louis office of the National Labor Relations Board.

When it filed the objection, Dollar General claimed that two employees came forward after the vote to say they “were either promised money for their vote or feared retaliation,” according to previous Missourian reporting.

On Thursday, the board officer in charge of hearing the case recommended dismissing the company’s claims and upholding the results of the election, Local 655 spokesman Collin Reischman said.
