Amazon workers test positive for covid-19 at 10 U.S. warehouses

Yep, I know we have Corona Virus threads all over the place but because some are very specific to certain subjects, this being Amazon workers, this news is going here. These big warehouses IMO have the potential for major spread of the disease.

The spike in positive tests for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus comes as the e-commerce giant races to hire 100,000 workers to meet massive shopper demand.

SEATTLE — The U.S. coronavirus outbreak has spread to at least 10 Amazon warehouses, infecting workers racing to deliver massive volumes of packages for consumers leery of leaving their homes to shop.

In the past few days, workers tested positive for covid-19 at Amazon warehouses and shipping facilities across the country, from New York to California and Michigan to Texas. In some cases, Amazon shut down facilities for cleaning, and some workers who were in close contact with their infected colleagues have been quarantined.

But some workers complain Amazon hasn’t provided them with enough information about the spread of virus in their facilities.

Bobbi Johnson heard rumors at her sortation center but only found out there was an infected co-worker after confronting a human resources staffer in the break room. Worried about her immunocompromised children, she took off three days last week and another two this week and is nervous about returning, but she needs the paycheck.

New York launches investigation after Amazon fires worker who led walkout
NEW YORK—Amazon’s arbitrary firing of Christian Smalls, the worker who led a walkout from the monster retail distributor’s Staten Island, N.Y., warehouse over the coronavirus threat to himself and his colleagues, has drawn both union flak and a potential investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James.

Smalls raised concerns about exposure of himself and his colleagues to another worker who tested positive for the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19. He cited Amazon’s “lack of safety protocols” for the workers at the warehouse.

“We’re not asking for much. We’re asking the building to be closed and sanitized, and for us to be paid,” Smalls told CNN before the walkout from the firm’s JFK8 warehouse. He called it a “virtual breeding ground” for social transmission of the coronavirus.

When Amazon responded with vague statements dismissing the workers’ concerns—even though New York City, including Staten Island, is the current U.S. epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic—Smalls, a 31-year-old assistant manager, led more than a dozen colleagues in the March 30 walkout.

It's not too much to ask at all. What Smalls is talking about is reality. I do not wish to be part of their science project in any way either.

THere is always two sides to every story and NO I am not sticking up for Amazon..But this guy was suppose to be in quarantine and he came out to lead the charge putting other workers in danger.. He was being paid to sit home.. Everything he did he could have done it by phone.. This is why he was fired.. Not because he organized the walkout.. But he does deserve his day in court with the NLRB..
