Default NEMF files for chapter 11

I am sorry to hear that New England Motor Freight has filed Chapter 11 today. Over the years I have known many hard working NEMF drivers and a few very good former Red Star supervisors who went there. NEMF was a Teamster job back in the 70s but switched over to the IAM

I hope that ABF, New Penn and UPSF can pick up some of the NEMF drivers and it's decent accounts.

We can add another long time freight carrier to the list of trucking companies in the truckers bone yard...NEMP filed for chapter 11 yesterday...What a shame...I know a lot of good men who have worked there for years, many of them worked at APA...I've gotten phone calls already about any openings at ABF...told them to apply right away...I'll do the best I can to help them...

New England has been a disaster for the past year or so...won't get into specifics but the handwriting was on the wall...just like APA and many other freight carriers in the past...''Corporate ran it into the Ground''...

Shevell had a myth built up that he had ''STOOD UP'' to the Teamsters...In point of fact,he and Friedman had looted $1 million from Eastern/Associated and given it to Motts in Hoboken to get out from under 560...Shevell's were making Millions and yet they kept ''DEMANDING'' concessions from the Rank and File....just like all the other Corporate Parasites in this country...they can ROT in hell...

Those were interesting times in NJ trucking back in the 60s & 70s when NEMF & 560 were mobbed up. Shevell was in bed with the Genovese crime family. At that time NEMF was the only Teamsters LTL trucking company that I knew of that had a sweetheart contract. I guess you would had to have been there to understand it. And to think some people still believe the Sopranos and Goodfellas were just fiction................... I don't know how any unionized Northeastern regional carrier can survive today with all the nonunion competition.

Excellent post 2631...Fiction?...You and I both know that's laughable 2631...I still have many friends of mine that I grew up with who have paid their debt to society...And that debt to society still comes with a price with the fact that ''OC'' will be forever attached to their names for as long as they live....''Organized Crime''...Watch-List...

Does anybody know the reason why NEMF drivers switched from the teamsters to the machinists, I've always been curious.

Maybe they got sick of the scumbag teamster leadership giving the companies everything they want
and doing nothing for the rank and file, Yet taking the dues and making the goons rich?

Good question...If I'm not mistaken,I don't believe NE was ever a Teamster job...The original carrier that became NEMF was a 560 job...I'm pretty sure they had some holdover Teamsters from the original job for pension purposes, but as they retired they were replaced by Machinists...Shevell bought his way out of that...The contract with the Airline Machinists was only there to keep the job from being organized by a real trucking union...and the Machinist contract was all of 4 pages long...
