So where does it end? Does a state fine U-Haul if a private individual rents a truck and transports untaxed smokes?
What if its just a couple cartons for personal use?

What if a customer packs stolen goods in a U-Pack container, and labels the boxes as furniture. Do the
feds fine ABF for transporting stolen goods?

How about all those vehicles built in Mexico...can the car hauler be fined
if one of the cars had drugs hidden in it?

I agree, exactly why I started this thread. To me it is like blaming the bar tender for the customer going out and driving drunk.

Our Democrat Governor imposed ghe tax.

The prices wont come down on insurance. But less people will be smoking. They wont afford it.
The cigarette companies are a GOP lobby. From the South. The northern Dem states up here impose the heavy taxes. The Southern states over here dont have them. NY &Nj are heavy Dem states and theyve had off the charts cigarette taxes forever.
Sugar is bad for health. Eggs are bad. Red meat is bad. Oil and butter is bad. .....all according to some. They also cause insurance to spend what could be their profits. Dont be surlrised when everything but glutten free bread and water are the only items considered healthy and untaxable.
Its all politics and expert studdies are designed to benefit somebody politically.
The only tax I approve of right now is a tariff on all foreign goods to replace our taxes for the government budgets.

Do insurance companies profit from us using our insurance benefits?

Notice how they're not afraid to tax a product from another state yet it's totally unacceptable to tariff a foreign product which takes our jobs away.
How about when a manufacturer moves from a Blue State to a Red State. Why not tax the hell out of that coming back?
Seems like a sin to me.
    Sin tax.

Over 2 1/2 years and the appeals court finds UPS liable for those cigarette shipments.

Appeals court finds UPS liable for illegally transporting contraband cigarettes in New York
A federal appeals court on Nov. 7 upheld a lower court’s ruling that shipping and logistics giant United Parcel Service Inc. is liable for illegally transporting hundreds of thousands of cartons of untaxed cigarettes from Native American reservations to unlicensed recipients in New York state.
In its ruling, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan reduced the payout and penalties UPS (NYSE: UPS) must pay to around $97.6 million, down significantly from approximately $247 million U.S. District Court Judge Katherine B. Forrest ordered the company to pay back in May 2017, according to Reuters.
The shipping giant said it is reviewing the federal appeals court’s 115-page decision and may consider appealing.
The ground delivery unit of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) has also tangled with New York state and New York City over shipping of contraband cigarettes. In January, FedEx agreed to pay $35.3 million to settle three lawsuits alleging that the Memphis-based carrier partnered with cigarette trafficking companies to ship hundreds of thousands of untaxed cigarettes to New York residents.
