pre TNT, Those were the days when Red Star had operating ratios in the 70s & 80s. We were right up there competing with those 2 other great northeast carriers, New Penn & APA.

The trailer in question was a pup ( I little bigger than a pup but we called them city trailers) if memory serves me right..They were supposedly used mainly in the metro area out of Newark,N.J...It was before TNT and then USF and then the BOOT up the rear. Late 70's or early 80's..

For those that stay informed "way out thisaway", Ed Taylor is kind of a small hero to the few of us that know his name, and the bravery he stands for. I was turned onto the whole ugly Red Star story by a NewPenn driver about 3 years ago. He referred me to a 13 page letter from Ed to the NLRB. I keep a copy of it way deep in the back burner of my computer, in case people want to know the real story first hand.

When the picture was sent, the text didn't come through. This is a picture of the movie Dog Day Afternoon (1972)

Pullin3, I was sitting here searching for some info on the ballot count and look what I found YRC Teamsters Vote Update | Teamsters for a Democratic Union

YRC Teamsters Vote Update
August 6, 2009: The vote count is proceeding among the approximately 27,200 YRC Teamsters who mailed in a ballot on proposed deep contract concessions. Today was spent sorting the ballots by local union and opening ballot envelopes.

Many ballots have been placed into “yes” and “no” piles by local union, but some have not been opened yet, and no actual counting has taken place.

International Union officials stated they would not do counting today. The Hoffa administration also tried to muzzle independent observers Local 107 members Ed Brogan and Ed Taylor with a “confidentiality agreement,” which they declined to sign.

The process will proceed on Friday. We will post information as it becomes available.

Some 43,000 ballots were mailed out
.

It appears as if ex Red Star driver Ed Taylor from Philly Local 107 is still fighting the good fight.

I just got into the yard at Hbg from some sleep someplace and the whole entire big wigs from Red Star and a couple of the big wigs from Holland where there at the terminal and the word then was somekind of merger was in the works.Needless to say a little while later as I was leaving my BA came up to me (in the employees parking lot) and informed me they were shutting us down due to some kind of strike in Phila by a couple of office Girls (Smoke screen) and that since I was a road steward my job was to get everyone off the dock and out the gate. Then some kind of armed security showed up and pad locked the gates. The rest is history.Virtue sat in his car hiding behind a dumpster in Hardees parking lot across the street from our terminal giving the BA's instructions over his cell phone.Ed asked me to become a signature to his lawsuit which I accepted with open arms..I give Virtue credit he stood firm by not revealing any behind the scenes deals made right up to the moment he was asked or forced to retire as 776's president.. We will never know the real story behind the closer and I guess now its probably better left alone.Everyone has at least moved on with their lives. Some for the Best and some wound up worse off. The only thing I ever kept to remind me was a company 25 year ring I got from the original Red Star company's owner..
These are pictures from the good ole days.

Yes, I had heard he was there for the last ballot count also.
