Default Cinco de Mayo

The American Flag is Disrespectful on Cinco de Mayo? - Big Government

Quote:We’ve reached a new low. A high school disciplined students for wearing American flag t-shirts to school because they did so on Cinco de Mayo. As some of the students of Mexican descent explained – “That’s ‘our’ day.”

“We knew it was Cinco de Mayo. But we just came to show our flag,” said student Dominic Maciel. “We didn’t mean anything by it. We didn’t want to start anything. Nothing like that.”

We obviously aren’t teaching our kids well. They should know that the American flag is offensive in America! I blame the parents.

Student Anthony Caravalho was also sent home for not turning his shirt inside out. “They said we had to wear our t-shirts inside out and then we could go back to class and we said no,” said Caravalho. “It would be disrespectful to the flag by hiding it.”

It’s our flag that’s disrespectful. They could have avoided trouble and been hailed as tolerant if they’d burned the American flag t-shirts.

Some Mexican-American students KTVU spoke with said they thought wearing red, white and blue on Cinco de Mayo was disrespectful. “It’s just kinda disrespectful that they would do that on this day,” said student Victoria Wright. “I mean, we don’t go around on 4th of July wearing red white and green and saying ‘Viva Mexico,’ because that’s disrespectful.”

You have got to be joking. I will say this. I have seven grandsons and if the school ever sent one of them home for proudly displaying my beloved American Flag I would be attending the next board meeting demanding that everyone involved in such an UN American act be FIRED. If this day is so important to the people of Mexican decent. Why not plan your vacation so to be able to go home and celebrate it with friends and family. Do they send kids that wear a flag home on Columbus Day? I am of Irish decent. And I have never felt disrespected on St. Patrick's Day when many people wear American things. And I will tell you why me and my FELLOW Irish Brothers don't get upset. Because we are AMERICANS FIRST! AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT! YOUR AMERICAN LOVING BROTHER ALWAYS!

I was wondering how long it would be before something like this made the news. Sooooo, the rights of those kids wearing the American flags T-shirts took a back seat? It seems that they aren't teaching much in these schools nowadays. When is someone going to step up with a pair and put an end to this crap. I will bet you dimes for dollars that the school flagpole had the stars and stripes flying with the state flag below and no sight of the Mexican flag to be found.

I think those that can't get accustomed to the way things are done in this country should pack their schnit and head back south of the border. Love it or leave it!...And take your damn flag with you....Sorry, but the benefits have to stay behind.

Let us all remember that What is now Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and much of California was once part of Mexico. Taken by force through war. I'm sure most of the american Indian tribes are not to fond of the stars and stripes. But as the saying goes, 'to the victor goes the spoils'.

Dear Mr. or Mrs. politician.....We have defended this nation from hostile attack for well over 200 years? Why? We have the baddest military in the world.....Look around, Mexico is taking over the country without even firing a shot?

After digging around a little more I found this interesting report that has a better discription of what happened. Check this out.

Five Live Oak High School students' First Amendment rights were challenged Wednesday morning when they were asked to leave school because they donned American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. Officials at the school chose not to comment on the situation, but one student said an official called the T-shirts "incendiary."

"They said we were starting a fight, we were fuel to the fire," said sophomore Matt Dariano.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District issued this statement: "In an attempt to foster a spirit of cultural awareness and maintain a safe and supportive school environment, the Live Oak High School administration took certain actions earlier today. The district does not concur with the Live Oak High School administration's interpretation of either board or district policy related to these actions."

The five teens were sitting at a table outside during their brunch break about 10:10 a.m. when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two boys to take off their American flag bandannas. The boys said they complied. In the same conversation, sophomore Dominic Maciel said, Rodriguez told the group to "walk with him to the office."

Then you get a reply from a Latino student such as this. Where is his American pride? We respect them? Huh, I thought we were all together, One nation under God?
A group of about a dozen Latino students expressed their dismay Thursday directly to the school's white students — particularly the boys who wore the flag clothing. "We respect them on Fourth of July," said sophomore Biana Coreas. "We don't go with our Mexican flags waving it up that day, so why can't they respect us too?"
