Default Fraud concerns linger over new Ill. license law

Backers of the proposal, who tout it as a public-safety measure, argue that required facial recognition technology is reliable enough to prevent fraud, but opponents point to hundreds of fraudulent cases in New Mexico, Washington and Utah after those states began giving illegal immigrants permission to drive. Illinois will not require applicants to be fingerprinted, for fear that would discourage immigrants from applying.
But the other states' driving programs for illegal immigrants have been abused. New Mexico and Washington both issue licenses, while Utah issues a permit.

An Associated Press investigation last year found a striking pattern in New Mexico, suggesting immigrants tried to game the system to obtain a license. In one instance, 48 foreign-born individuals claimed to live at a smoke shop in Albuquerque to fulfill a state residency condition. New Mexico does not have a fingerprinting requirement, though it asks applicants to show two proofs of state residency.

America is being destroyed from within. We are lost in our own confusion.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Edward Acevedo, a Chicago Democrat, said state roads will be safer because illegal immigrants will receive training and be tested before obtaining a license. They also will be required to purchase insurance, an aspect that would save millions for currently insured drivers, Acevedo said.
Somebody is feeding them and giving them jobs or support otherwise they would leave. But that is not the plan.

The last few times I have seen proposed legislation cracking down on those that employ illegals there seems to be a great outcry from our politicians. Seems their pockets won't be lined if they pass such a bill.

Maybe those business owners that are looking to lower any labor costs they have ?
Many people work at "any" job they can get to feed their family.
You seem to imply everyone is on welfare.
I see the Mexican's work the fields around here every year.
Some have been coming to the same farm every year for decades.
They work, earn money and go home during the winter.
Why not give them driver training, license them illegally and require them to buy insurance ?

Yes, that's right. Why not have open boarders too and pay for everyone else in Mexico while were at it. Gee, isn't that what that right-wing GW wanted too?

As I have posted in this thread, the intentions were good when this law was passed in New Mexico but sometimes when something seems like the right thing to do, unforeseen problems arise and now we have this large problem with fraud over these licenses in NM.

Boo hoo hoo, same old argument from a lib , "they work the fields and then go home", BS!!! Come to SoCal they're in trucks coming from the border by the 1,000's, hauling freight that should be for American truckers, don't let anybody fool you I see it everyday. They're at every warehouse, plant, shop that I deliver or pick-up at, I'd say 70% of the business's that I go to hire illegals, they don't go home. 80% of illegals in this country are from mexico, if we are not going to enforce our laws and if employer's really want to use these people let them foot the bill for whatever it takes for them to be here.

Kickass, you hit the nail on the head with your post. I think us westerners have had to deal with the problem on a very grand scale for a very long time. It used to be not such a big problem here in NM but it is now. Our kids can't even get a job at a hamburger stand because guess who has all the jobs? Illegals. When I worked as a secretary in Southern CA, they would only hire illegals with their fake S.S. cards. I know because I was the one that had to make copies of their cards. On a regular basis they would come to me with new cards that had new numbers!! Even our office manager told me they were illegals and that is why they constantly had new S.S. cards. When I go back to visit family in CA, I am shocked by how the state is literally overrun with illegals. I am a so called LIB but I don't think it is ok to have millions of illegals pouring into our country and then they are rewarded with drivers licenses. And yes, husband has also told me about all the Mexican, spanish speaking truck drivers out on the road that cannot speak English. How are these guys getting CDL's??? So back to the drivers licenses for illegals, no I do not think it is ok. And just an after thought here, we wouldn't have this problem if employers here in the US would not hire illegals because they are so cheap and want to save on the almighty dollar!!!!

I also want to add that here in NM it has not only a problem with illegals from Mexico, it has been a security problem with illegals from other countries too. Naturally because there are more illegal Mexicans, that is where the biggest problem of fraud has been.
