Rep. Michael Frame, D-Eureka, asked Burlison if his goal was to “decimate” unions. Burlison responded that it was not his goal.

After the hearing, Burlison told reporters that he is not against union membership but said through discussion with family and friends has found that union members often do not like the candidates their money supports.

Rep. Karla May, D-St. Louis, said she works for corporations and that union dues already cannot legally be used for campaign contributions without consent. During testimony, Mike Lewis, secretary-treasurer for the Missouri AFL-CIO, said every union member already has the right to opt out from contributions annually.

“We shouldn’t mislead people. We should say we’re doing this because we’re attacking unions,” May said.|head&gcheck=1
