Full Throttle Ahead: US Tips Global Power Scales with Fracking

North Dakota now has virtual full employment, and the state budget showed an estimated surplus of $1.6 billion in 2012. Truck drivers in the state make $100,000 a year, while the strippers being brought in from Las Vegas rake in more than $1,000 a night. President Barack Obama calls the discovery of Bakken and similar shale gas formations in Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Utah a "stroke of luck," saying: "We have a hundred years' worth of energy right beneath our feet."

In the future, the United States could even go from being a net energy importer to a net exporter. But that would require a true policy shift. Since the oil shock of the 1970s, the export of domestic petroleum resources has been banned in the United States. Many companies also have an interest in keeping as much of the cheap natural gas in the country as possible, as it provides them with a competitive advantage over foreign competitors.

3.3% Unemployment Rate for Dec 2012
    Job Service North Dakota

I thought "FULL" employment meant everybody is working.
    $100 G a year for truck drivers ?
I surprised any other state has any drivers left, they all went to ND !

The costs of living there are HIGH,....That $100,000 a year doesn't go far when your driving a couple of hours one way to work and paying 2 grand a month for rent,....

At least that's how it has been for a couple of friends of mine out there,.....I looked into it before I got the gig in ltl,............The numbers didn't add up good enough for me to make the move,...

Sounds like it is the locals that are cashing in with excessive rents and high food costs which equals the high cost of living..They are starting to do that fracking in NE Pennsylvania and I know of a few that are out there working..Tried to get my oldest to go out there but he doesn't want to commute ..My idea was to get him to move out there..

Idaho unemployment is higher, yet the travel to ND is not that far away.
Why haven't all those truck drivers went to ND.
Maybe because the picture painted is not exactly as it seems.

Idaho’s December Jobless Rate Falls to 6.6 Percent, Lowest in Nearly 4 Years
    LMI Home

Local driving jobs in Idaho pay pauper wages. You would think those people would go to those jobs in ND.
Must be more to the picture then we see.
