It's common sense! For some reason these corporate big wigs and politicians can't figure it out. Don't they realize if people have more money to spend, businesses will do far better? Duh!
If you need more evidence that a higher minimum wage won't kill the economy, consider this: The city with one of the highest minimum wages in the country has had faster job growth than any other big city over the past 10 years.

San Francisco's small businesses are growing faster than those of any other big city or the nation as a whole, according to new data from payroll-processor Paychex and research firm IHS. And this is happening despite the fact that, as of January 1, San Francisco's minimum wage was $10.74 an hour, higher than any state minimum wage or the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

It's a good emotional string puller for politicians to raise minimum wage. Remember when we didn't care what minimum wage was? because we all had better jobs do to better economic times. the economy is the key to success not making McDonlads a career.
Is this really a big success story?

Strappy I have said it before and I will say it again. I have worked many, many minimum wage jobs even though I have gone to school twice and have good job skills. I do care about minimum wage and always have. When you live in areas where there are not a lot of jobs but competition for those jobs, you take what you can get. You are forced too. I have lived in several rural areas in CA before moving to another rural area here in NM. I was paid minimum wage to work as a secretary/accounting clerk. Yes, my wages went up but I had to start at low pay. So many seem to think the only ones making minimum wage are people flipping burgers at McDonalds. How wrong they are!!! I had several friends straight out of high school making minimum wage working at the local mall doing retail. When husband was still a wood worker, he had to take a job barely above minimum wage because there were no jobs to be had. And he was a skilled wood worker. If you believe that minimum wage is only for unskilled teenagers, you are so very wrong. And anybody with any economic sense can figure out that if you have people with money to spend, it will fuel the economy. We heard all your arguments when Santa Fe voted to raise the minimum wage. All the doom and gloom was wrong. Santa Fe continues to thrive.

I wouldn't flip burgers for $15.00 an hour, work is work though so if the economy is at a point were people can only find crappy burger flipping jobs to support a family then pay them a decent wage not a slave wage. How many jobs has our government let co.'s outsource so greedy corporations can make larger profits and avoid taxes? How about trucking, how many jobs have been lost by deregulation, NAFTA, Superhighway, etc. our government at work destroying the middle class jobs.

Their local economy is sure a big success story thanks in part to an increase in disposable income.

Real estate in northern California is booming Strappy. San Jose and San Francisco are highly prized and the house flipping crews are making a killing.

San Francisco properties are highly sought after and purchased by those that do not fall into the minimum wage category.

And I use Santa Fe as an example because they decided to do this before any other city or state did it. Santa Fe at one point had the highest minimum wage in the country. They made it through the great recession despite the fact that NM is one of the poorest states.

I am not sure where you have been the last 40 years but minimum wage has always been a hot topic. You didn't care about it because you had a good union job. Continued support of all union busting legislation has left us where we are today. As trade Unionists and their jobs disappeared, so did our booming economy.

That is all you have to say? Nope, it is called employers taking advantage wherever and whenever they can. Skilled people should not have to work for minimum wage. That is why people go to school, that is why people work had to create a work history and build their skills. And that is why our economy is getting better for an elite few. Greed and people who do not care about anyone but themselves. The economy will not get better until this way of thinking changes.

I don't think I have ever had a minimum wage job. 50% of all jobs I worked were union. I remember my first union job it was worthless.
I'm currently making 20 an hr with great working condition. It is not union.
Carhaul has one of the best union bar none. Would never work there if there was none. I don't work there or even try to do that job simply because it doesn't fit my lifestyle. I hate the road.
