Default America Is Globally Shamed For Its Pathetic Minimum Wage

The whole situation disgusts me so badly. No jobs, jobs that pay low wages. And yet the Republicans just don't get that the economy will never, never improve under these circumstances.

America is treating its low-wage workers so badly that it's starting to get shamed by the rest of the world.

The International Monetary Fund on Monday cut its forecast for U.S. economic growth this year, warned of sluggish growth for years to come, and made a bunch of suggestions for getting America's economic house in order -- including raising the abysmally low federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
In fact, Republicans in Congress oppose many of the suggestions the IMF made for getting U.S. economic growth moving again, including infrastructure investment and immigration reform. Without such things, the IMF said, it expects U.S. gross domestic product growth to average 2 percent a year for "the next several years," below its historic average of more than 3 percent. The IMF also cut its forecast for growth this year to 2 percent from an earlier estimate of 2.8 percent.

2.4 percent are working for minimum wages in this country.
Once when I was 17 did I ever work for minimum wage and that was just for two months.
No need for someone to think that McDonalds is a Career.

hmm 92 million people have left the workforce yet millions more are coming across the border for amnesty.

What you don't seem to understand is it is not just fast food workers making minimum wage or near minimum wage. Maybe you have been a Teamster for so long you are out of touch. Many non union employees get paid terrible wages, especially if they live and work in an area where there is big competition for few jobs. You cannot count on an employer to pay a fair wage out of the goodness of their hearts.

You mean the $7 something they pay at Union Kroger wages?
I have had 3 union jobs and 2 of them were crap.

The Democrats might put up the arguments for higher min wage and blame the republicans but it will never come to pass.

So out of a total US population of 314 million people, you actually think 30 percent of those are out of work ?

Those numbers include homemakers, retirees, disabled and young people, 16 years old and up, who may be more concerned with school.

Another right wing over the top dumb statement.

Ok, so you worked two bad union jobs. How many of us have worked endless non union crap jobs? Jobs that should have paid better than they did but the employer was too greedy to fork out decent wages for people even though they were experienced, skilled workers. Are you saying we should not have a better minimum wage?

And this thread is not about amnesty. We have another thread going on that topic.

It takes decent wages to lift this country out of the slump it is in. Millions of people living at poverty level do not make for a healthy economy.

It is amazing to me how many people I saw over my lifetime that just stay at crap jobs rather than better themselves. To me if your making 15 an hour with No overtime your not going to make it. A few years ago maybe but inflation is eating you alive.

Oh an Amnesty is part of it. Adding million of people to the workforce will drive down wages.

You stay at crap jobs when you can't get another job. Are you saying people never try to better themselves? For many people, especially in this economy, you take what you can get. It is called having a job, any job. And if you don't, if you hold out for something better, then it is said that you are too lazy to work.

I was watching one of those court shows and the judge ask "What was your rent at the time?", answer, "$800",
Judge: "and you were receiving Goevernment assistance what was your portion of that"? answer, $2

You add in food stamps and whatever else and do you think this person will come off the couch for $10 an hr? Oh and she was young, healthy and pretty, very hireable.
