I dont think it should, Im not a bible thumper but I attend church on sunday, I send my kids to sunday school, I believe in Heaven and all that good stuff, but I feel that when religion gets inputed into politics it is taken to far, Just look at some of the wacked out countries in the middle east that are run by religious fanatics, if your religion is opposite of the rulers beliefs you probably get beheaded.

Now I am offended. Can we kill muslims now because they hurt my feelings ? They want to kill us if we offend them. Eye for an Eye.

No I also am not a bible thumper.I believe in a god.It might not be the one others believe in but I still believe and I don't think I have the right to push him /her onto anyone else.If another person chooses to believe then thats good for them. Politics should not be based on religious beliefs.Do I want God taken off my money ? NO and do I want prayer in schools? Yes (privately of course) and do I want the Pledge of Allegence in Schools.YA DAMN RIGHT I DO. If you can't swear allegance to our flag then leave.

I would agree with you about this only if the special interest groups would stop trying to pass legislation that is contrary to the Christian's belief in the way the country should be going. Such as abortion, same sex marriages, school systems passing out condoms to children. Making it legal for a minor not to have to tell their parents about a up coming abortion they are going to have. Stop Planned Parenthood from protection child rapist. And the list goes on and on. As far as I know we did not come out fighting first to try to pass all this legislation. We are trying to pull you guys back to where it was before the 1960's.

Now, I'm not someone who has an issue with Nativity Scenes on the Town Square, or one of those "Happy Holidays" nuts.
Now the Christian has to get involved in Government to try to keep this legal.

I do think there is a point where Churches cross a line, like publishing booklets where they tell a person how to vote.
Why can't we do this? The only origination that can't speak on who they think or endorse for a public office is a Church. The lesbian groups can. The gay groups can. Just to say they can't because a Church is tax exempt is ridiculous.

When I lived in GA, I saw how the Baptist's tried to dictate to the entire community. They ran and endorsed candidates who proclaimed as a platform that they would vote on issues in accordance with Biblical teachings. Not everyone in the community was Baptist, some were Jewish, Catholic, Methodist, and every other denomination. Yet, since the southern Baptists were in the majority, they tried to overrun everything. A simple, harmless thing like Halloween used to get them up in arms, especially if it happened to fall on a Sunday. We had kids show up on Saturday, saying that their Pastor told them they had to go trick or treating on Saturday instead. I told them to tell the Pastor he was nuts and to check the calendar...and to come back tomorrow. The local Chik Fil A restaurant would only hire kids who belonged to a certain Church. Everywhere I ever lived that would be considered illegal, yet there it was accepted practice. This is a secular nation, and we do not have an official state religion. That type of thing is usually the domain of groups like the Taliban. We do not need an American version of that. While I am not anti-religion, I do reserve the right to live my life in such a way that it doesn't have to pass muster with someone elses religious doctrine. I do not require others to adhere to my religious beliefs, I expect the same consideration.
You are right the USA is a secular nation now, but it was not that way before. It amazes me that someone can believe the way you do and say that you are not anti-religion. Every thing you believe in or want so stop is religion. I can't believe you made the comment comparing the Southern Baptist to the Taliban. I am not a Southern Baptist anyway. I am one of them other extreme right wingers. The Independent Baptist.
