Default The Job-Killing Trade Deal You’ve Never Heard Of: The China Bilateral Investment Trea

    Excuse my language but WTF?????
The 2016 election has highlighted growing public opposition in both parties to the status-quo globalization agenda, which both sides blame for outsourcing jobs and privileging corporate profits over ordinary workers. This populist voter backlash puts trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on life support, and is forcing candidates to better explain how they would boost jobs and wages.

But what if those voters learned that the Obama administration is in the midst of negotiating yet another corporate-friendly trade deal, one that would facilitate more offshoring, and that could also give China, of all countries, effective veto power over domestic policy?

That’s precisely what’s happening in behind-the-scenes negotiations over a little-publicized agreement on the table between the U.S. and China, the world’s two largest economies. Just as the White House is trying to sell TPP as a bulwark against China, the administration is simultaneously seeking an investment treaty with the Chinese that undercuts that argument.
China has ignored many of the commitments imposed on it following its entry into the World Trade Organization, and critics fear the Chinese would not live up to their obligations on the BIT either. And even amid the secrecy surrounding the deal, many question the value of letting China invest more in the United States, or letting U.S. corporations escape domestic laws and regulations, effectively turning capitalism into a heads-I-win, tails-you-lose game. Investment rules acceptable to corporate executives aren’t necessarily good for workers. And pushing another deal that accelerates the hollowing out of the nation’s industrial base, in an election year, borders on political insanity.

Basically how I feel every morning after looking for news to post on TOL. Not often that I find good news except for the rare occasion when you see workers join the Teamsters union or you see a state (basically NM) beat RTW.

Strange, all three candidates are anti-trade even the so called republican Mr Trump, also known as the master of the business world who wins wins wins all the time when negotiating, knows most voters don't know sheeit from shoeshine about trade. U.S. and China are not only the world’s two largest economies but Mexico and Canada rank high also. Protectionism doesn't work, never did and never will. Even Obama the idiot knows that

So you say that protectionism doesn't work ...
Yet the right claims it doesn't work because of the restrictive rules and laws imposed on businesses.
Namely, the claim that unions restrict business and free trade.
Here is an excerpt from that thought process.

The United States must reduce the drag that its regulations impose on all businesses that operate within its borders, which means rooting out the various forms of monopoly power, like unions, that can only survive if protected by state law.

That sounds typical of the corporate powers that want free rein on wages and benefits ( low pay ) to be more competitive.
My only question is how does the European nations survive ?
Unions are common place, real wages for real work and healthcare and retirement, all included.

As times change, maybe the idea of protectionism is something that we will have to give a chance if we expect our country to have a viable middle class sector with which to grow the whole economy. Not just grow the corporate profits and the executives pocket books.

The Rise of American Protectionism | Hoover Institution
The Hoover Institution is listed as a conservative leaning group with more then 88% of political donations to the GOP.
That is why they are anti-union.

I assume you mistakenly believe the European nations are doing well. Then why are countries like Greece, Portugal, Italy, and Spain going broke?
European socialism is why. Bernie Sanders style. Socialism and protectionism don't work

Yes, some countries have problems economically. But you also seem to disregard Denmark, Norway, Germany, Finland, Netherlands ... to name a few.
All of which universal healthcare, government backed retirement plans and a happy and productive citizenry.

Low corp taxes in Ireland, a lot of US companies are fleeing to Ireland for that reason. England too, why just today I read Avon is heaving 2500 workers and moving headquarters to England. The thought of a Clinton or Trump presidency is causing an exodus of US corporate America companies to go south or abroad
