Default Long Island Teamster's deportation is a wakeup call: Unions must protect their immigr

I know I am going to get a bunch of flack about posting this but so be it. Some of you may have received an email from the IBT about this last week asking you to sign a petition to keep this man from being deported. I signed it. He has been a teamster for over 20 years if I remember correctly. Over the years my views have changed about illegal immigrants. It was never black and white for me anyway. Lots of gray areas. Now I really do look at it from a humanitarian point of view. I guess you can thank my church for that. It opened my eyes to another view, a view I happen to understand. With Trump this is going to ramp up.
Hundreds of immigrants are being deported every day, and have been for years, but the impact hits home when it happens to one of your own.

Over the last two weeks, my union, the Teamsters, watched as one of our long-serving members was taken from his family and deported. The experience was a wakeup call that deportation can happen to any of our immigrant members or neighbors.

In just 13 days, the family that Teamster member Eber Garcia Vasquez labored to build and support over three decades was ripped apart.

Eber’s case highlights the ruthlessness of this new era of deportations. White House officials portray those being deported as dangerous criminals, and distribute a stream of press releases highlighting the rare cases that fit that stereotype.

New York Teamsters Become “Sanctuary Union” Following Deportation of Union Member
NEW YORK, NY – Following the deportation of a long-serving Teamster member last week, Teamsters Joint Council 16 today passed a resolution to become a “sanctuary union.” As a sanctuary union, the Teamsters will not assist federal immigration agents in deporting its members and will proactively provide trainings, legal assistance, and organize support for immigrant Teamsters. Joint Council 16 and its 27 affiliate local unions represent 120,000 workers in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and Puerto Rico.

“Our members can be confident that we stand behind them 100 percent, regardless of where they were born or what kinds of papers they have,” said George Miranda, President of Teamsters Joint Council 16. “Being a sanctuary union means we will do all that is in our power to keep our immigrant members safe and keep their families together. The Teamsters have fought against racism since our first days as a union, and this is the next step.”

The action follows last week’s deportation of Eber Garcia Vasquez, a 26-year member of Teamsters Local 813. The union had circulated petitions, organized members across the country to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for his release, and held a rally outside of ICE’s New York City office. Despite widespread outcry, Garcia Vasquez was deported on September 6, 2017.

I would have thought it a better idea to check if your members were legal immigrants first, before they joined.
Our guys have to be teamsters to work here.....and if not and they refuse to join....they are gone...No more calls to come in.
Therefore the right principle would be to check if they are legal first....and if not....they can't join...therefore they can't work here.
We need borders......Does Long Islands Locals have borders?
I'm sure they do...or at one time did.....It has nothing to do with racism..They should refrain from an argument which makes us look stupid....and that racist argument makes us look dumb....It has nothing to do with racism....no more than stopping a nonunion guy from working at a union shop has to do with racism..

There's rules....and if not followed there is consequences....that goes with the nation...and that goes with union shops......this political grandstandin will not gain us members....but turn more people against us..and we can't afford that.

Why did the guy not try to become legal??
    He was here 20-30 years.
And now our whole union is supposed to join a much divided political argument about it?

Doing the wrong thing isn't gonna fix anything.

Long Island teamsters will not let scabs work with them and not pay dues......therefore Americans should not support immigrants who do not come the right way.
It's like allowing a junior guy to take senior work just because he is special....NO...he is not "special"...."Special" wrecks the whole thing. Senior guys who did it the right way cannot support it....and Americans who were immigrants and did it the right way should not support it either......It's causing them to be cooked to death in trailers being hauled up here......done the right way...nobody hides....nobody is mistreated or abused....and you are not doing something like releasing a foreign insect into our forests which destroys the whole food chain and forest eventually.....Do it right....and this is not right.

I don't care if they are Irish, Polish, Russian, German, French, English, Greek, Mexican, Nigerian, Somalian, Mexican, Chinese, Iraqui, Israeli........if they are not here legally they are part of a system which is hurting people....They need no more sympathy than the people who come legally. We have a process and that process needs to be followed......or else things go haywire, which they have for decades now....and it needs to be fixed....and ya can't fix it by supporting it...People are being treated as less than...This guy from long island would help more people by having his union turn in all the illegal employers than supporting this......supporting this encourages more of the bad places he says exist to continue existing....cracking down is what is needed...not encouraging it.......again....people are being hurt by supporting the illegal transport and hiding of these people. Are not the NYC ICE union? I bet they are.

I'd sign a petition for the US government to send our troops to Mexico and clean out the drug lords and sign into law our minimum wages......as long as these able bodied illegals would be standing next to our troops cleaning out and improving their own country.....They should not live a life in hiding...and they cannot live here if they are illegal.

Here's another hypocritical group who has rules to become part of....and Israel and the Muslim nations and religions also have rules I suppose....America is no different. You cannot just wak into a Catholic church and take communion....there is a process......and it is hypocritical to say that people don't have to follow the rules to join other "kingdoms".
How to Take Communion in the Catholic Church: 11 Steps
In the Catholic faith, Communion is an essential part of Mass. You must, among other requirements, be of Catholic faith, receive a welcome into the church, and be in a state of grace to take Communion. To receive Communion, you will take offerings of both the Body and the Blood of Christ by a priest or other church member. Allow the priest to place the host on your tongue or in your hands, then take a small sip of the blood from a proffered chalice.
Do this stuff to be a Catholic....and America has stuff to do also.

A bunch of "little' things in the link....but ALL are required.....The idea is to be a part of.......not just drifting around....the idea is to become a part of......not an outsider....There are rules......and the more I think of this the more I think Hoffa should denounce
these Long Island guys.....and retract this nonsense........Nobody follows hypocracy willingly....It is a foundation built on sand. Supporting LEGAL immigrtants is one thing.....supporting ILLEGAL immigrants is something totally different and wrong.
    1
Become Catholic if you are not already. You must be of the Catholic faith to take Communion. Baptized children go through the process in Sunday school, but if you are an adult you will take group classes, called RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), and go through the process of Reconciliation, first Communion, and Confirmation to convert to Catholicism.[1]
We have a responsibility to our own first. If America is gonna be worthwhile we must help our own first and then help others IF we can...$20 trillion in debt makes that questionable if we can anymore....military...refugees..etc...........The banks or whomever we owe this debt to can come to collect at any time I suppose.......and we will all pay dearly if we are muscled into paying it back quicker than anticipated.........who will we help then? Nobody ...for we will then be the ones in need of help.....If we are standing solid we can help.....when a drowning person who is weak tries to help another drowning person....they most probably both drown.

There is such a thing as borders...and rules to live within the bordders of things.....it is a principle relating to responsibility..it is a principle of ownership....
We are responsible for what goes on in our union, in our Church, in our house, in our nation...and whne the borders or rules to be within them are weakened....that ownership thing is weakened......responsibility is weakened............I tend to think these Long Island Officials have some nice priced cars or homes.......perhaps they don't care if somebody just comes up there and mopves into there home...or takes there car.......for ownership and responsibility menas nothing to them......just because they paid for the home and car does not make it theirs..in their own mentality....so anybody should be able to live in their home and drive their car....I'm sure they'd report THAT to the proper authorities......hypocracy....foundation made on sand not rock.

It's been done, with no real success.
Within the past 40 years, the U.S. government has spent over $2.5 trillion dollars fighting the War on Drugs.
Although the U.S. government has battled drugs for decades — President Eisenhower assembled a 5-member Cabinet committee to "stamp out narcotic addiction" in 1954.
President Nixon created the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 1973 to announce "an all-out global war on the drug menace."
And while the Bush administration's 2002 goal of reducing all illegal drug use by 25% led to unprecedented numbers of marijuana-related arrests, pot use only declined 6% (and the use of other drugs actually increased).
I don't know what the answer is, but we have thrown TRILLIONS of dollars at the problem, and it's hasn't stopped it.
Now a suggestion to give the lives of our troops ?
    That won't work either.

Because that's how Socialism works. First it takes money from one group by force, then for some heart felt reason or another gives money to another. Then people realize they can get on the system by doing less and receiving more of this free money until it collapses.

The flow of cheap labor drives down wages of Americans.
The corporations do that, by fear, threat and intimidation.
The flow of labor does this. as long as qualified people show up and fill jobs then wages will fall.
Just think, as an American how does immigration serve you. What would be the result to you personally if they added 10,000 people to your town. How would your life be affected. The Constitution serves Americans not the World.

Republicans want cheap labor. Democrats want to replace Americans for a voter base.
Yep, sure do. So they can have more.So do the republicans.
They are literally buying votes with your money to a group of people that does not represent you. At every turn the fund these people over you.

America is finished. On it's last legs as they commit crimes against you right before your eyes yet you refuse to see.

NSA Quietly Spends $24 Billion on New Tech...
NSA which by the way is unconstitutional. Who is complaining? Who is really looking out for you?
It will be you they move against. You have freedoms of nothing.
