    Default Reddaway Relocates Stockton Terminal

TUALATIN, Ore., Feb. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (YRCW) -- Reddaway, the less-than-truckload next-day transportation leader in the western U.S. and Canada, announced that it has relocated its Stockton, CA terminal to better meet the needs of its customers.

The new Reddaway terminal is more spacious with over twice the yard space and 47% more dock space as well as a more modern office environment. With 50 doors and a 100-foot wide dock, there is ample room for business operations. Additional benefits include a more customer- and employee-friendly location, cost savings to the organization and easy access to and from the I-5 corridor.

Let's talk about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly about this move and organization.

Good! I agree that the new terminal in Tracy is spacious and over twice the size of the Stockton yard, has more dock space, ample parking for the employees and lots of room for business operations. The company has benefited by raising their customer base and they are saving money.

Bad! The company was not prepared for this move at all! They didn't prepare their employees, they didn't prepare for a larger customer base or the new areas where they were getting the new customers!

UGLY!!! This company is NO WAY EMPLOYEE friendly!!! When the employees learned about the move it wasn't from the company, it was from the drivers of YRC in Tracy where they were relocating too. They had already met in preparation of the move, Reddaway employees were asking management and they commented "it's just talk." Instead of bringing the employee in on the move so that they were prepared they were told weeks before that they were moving and how they were moving. No mention of what new areas they were getting, no mention of double the customer base, they had no action plan in place. Just get in a damn truck, here is the address and go!!!

You would think that a company this big would anticipate the larger customer base and hire new drivers. NO!!! They didn't. Instead they are hiring out to private companies to take up the slack. If you see, other Reddaway's are offering a hiring bonus but not Stockton/Tracy Terminal. The drivers are overworked and working 12 to 14 hours a day after already traveling 30 plus minutes to work. They sign the NO OVERTIME list daily but it is ignored. When the drivers tell management they don't want to work that many hours because they have families, the safety manager (MK)'s answer is "if you don't like it, leave there's the door.!" Really?!!! The new TM is trying his hardest to work with the employees and the company (middle man) and please all. But, company is treating employees like peons and disregard requests. Moral is really bad and employees are in an uproar.

When driver's are sent out on their run's there are no maps offered to them since these are new areas they are delivering and picking up to, you would think they would at least map out areas for them with customers. They are not able to get a hold of the dispatcher on the radios they are given because they don't work very well, so they have to call the terminal from their personal cell phones. When dispatch calls the employees on their radios and they don't answer because they are driving, the call their personal cell phones to get a hold of them. If they don't answer they are driving and can't or have to pull over to answer. Then they are told not to pull over to answer but if they are caught answering while driving they are written up. Damned if they do damned if they don't! The company hasn't even offered to reimburse the employees for using their personal cells or purchase new radios that work. Employees have complained and asked management not to call them on their cell phones during work time. It falls on deaf ears. TM, OM and dispatch (which are also all overworked) are doing their best but Portland is playing hardball. Thank you TJ O'Conner while you sit nice and comfy you make it hard for us to do our job.

This terminal has been low in moral, management does not respect employees, employees work very hard to be treated like crap. Just because they moved to
Tracy doesn't make all the problems go away. The problems were moved to Tracy and continue!

Those on the outside looking in, it all sounds good but it smells bad!!!

Here we are 4 months into the move to Tracy and nothing has gotten better. Less drivers because regular drivers have moved to other companies, the company doesn't want to hire or the hiring process is slow and when they do hire a new driver he quits with in a week or two because of the way we are treated. The NO OT List is not honored and management makes a joke of it, if one of the drivers has an appointment we are not let off in time to make it to the appointment. We had one supervisor that actually worked with the employees on our issues. He packed up and left because he was told that he was too nice to the employees. WTF we aren't little kids, we know our jobs but they micro manage instead of working as a team. Are we being set up for failure? I feel we are!!!

Did you move from a terminal which was owned and paid off, to a terminal you now rent/lease?

I guess you would be talking about the P&D side. I know that for the Line Drivers in Portland part of the pre-hire was that you have a cell phone. When we were on strike several of our guys went there for awhile, one who was still using smoke signals. Had to buy a cell phone. It watching him try to make a call was like watching me play a violin. To this day (he jumped to ABF) it is still somewhat of a struggle for him. Then there is this new-flanged thing called a computer...
